my kid did really well today not too shabby for single ply 220lb. weight class only at 206lbs. age 20 in age 20-23 age bracket:

https://www.facebook.com/2XLPowerlifting/videos/898317511116843

1:18 mark 3rd lift deadlift 611lbs.

https://www.facebook.com/2XLPowerlifting/videos/226523776201815

58 minute mark bench 422 lbs. but no lift he lifted his butt up just a tad so settled for 407lbs.

https://www.facebook.com/2XLPowerlifting/videos/4740508302639413

1:35 mark squat was 622lbs. his personal best prior was 585lbs.

1:42 mark his buddy Brett (in blue) did squat 832lbs. successfully for a new world record only 235lbs. age 22 but due to technicality on top putting bar on monolift rack before rack command by split second judges did not give it to him even though his lift was fine.  He still set 2 world records age 20-23 bracket 240lbs. class with 2nd squat and 3rd bench press.

I guess there are worse things to do in college than powerlifting 4-5 x's every single week?  He lifts so much 2-3 hours every time in local gym that is a wonder he has anytime for college homework or riding his 1984 honda goldwing he just bought this spring?

talked to a few lifter's parents and amazes me they come from all over.  One came from Florida and the other came from North Dakota to lift in Illinois.   One 17 year old same size as my kid same last name KOCH was from North Dakota and heck even might be related to me on my Dad's side of the family somehow we chatted and they live only about 60 miles from where my Dad grew up in Mott ND near Richardton ND.    Small world indeed, but no real idea if related since I threw out a few names of my Dad and his older brothers/sisters and his Dad (all have passed on) and although some fairly common names,  did not really know them I do not think?  Last time I saw any of them I was like 5 years old so not really remember any of them in ND.    Not sure, I threw out my Dad's first name Ignatius and the kid's dad said I know of a KOCH by that name being his uncle, but maybe in ND Ignatius is a fairly common first name???    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes   Was very odd though his 17 year old kid and my kid sorta looked alike and his Dad and me sorta looked similar as well.  hmmmmm???

My kid told me if you want to see something impressive,  watch Sunday's meet.  Debbie Daminga age 60 only 165lbs. all muscle squated 562lbs.    Now that is super human indeed.  At 2:00 mark near the end.

Some of these female lifters would not want to meet in a dark alley.  I would try to run away as fast as possible.   I have at one meet more laid back not as competitive driven was nice to see age 5-6 year olds lifting the bar up with a few very small weights on the end.  Now that is starting off way early.

My kid helped coach/train one lady about same age 20-22 and she blew me away as well at a meet last year.  No lightweight lady was big boned and full figured but stocky and solid and when she got her 3rd massive deadlift she went over and jumped on my kid hugging him and darn near knocked him over she was so happy she got that last big deadlift.

agree Serk, how does a 60 year old female only 165lbs. even if all muscle which she is squat 560lbs. even with a multi-ply suit on?  Impossible but was not as shown here.  Me being not good bending over anymore lifted up off the squat rack 300lbs. but did NOT dare going down since know I could never get back up without blowing out my hip or knees for sure.  I still see 60 year olds though lift at these events doing well over 400lbs. squats into that 500lb range but a lot of them also have a tough time going down that far and then getting back up.  Oldest skinny lifter I saw was age 79 and he blew me away doing what he did.  Have seen older females as well pushing age 70 doing nearly impossible weights as well.

My kid wears a single-ply VERY tight lifting suit (one for each of 3 lifts)  which helps him lift anywhere from 60-80lbs. more than lifting RAW (no special suit just a singlet on).  It also helps secure and keep tight his hips, back, chest area which helps from blowing out muscles, but then again lifting another say 80lbs. also increases risks of blow outs.   A lot of heavy hitter lifters go multi-ply suits (2 layers) which offers even more support and from what my kid said offers some adjustability as well.

What I do not like seeing is guys my age and bigger wear super super tight lifting suits and PASS OUT while usually squat or deadlift but have seen a pass out doing a bench also.  One older BIG gent had on that suit so tight he passed out deadlift and no spotter in back (should have had one) and passed out falling thru the partition wall knocking it over.    My kid age 20 takes 20 minutes to get his suit on/off and leaves huge bruises on arms, chest, and thighs in legs after a meet is that tight.  He has popped blood vessels in his eyes bloodshot red a few times as well as his lifting buddy Brett had VERY RED eyeballs after this last meet doing a 832lb. squat at only 235lbs.  Brett his buddy also passed out having too tight a bench suit on last year at an event we attended he passed out ALL 3 BENCH PRESSES which disqualified him entirely during that meet.  He since has gotten a bigger bench suit that was not so tight on his chest.

Kid told me that the 160lbs. 60 year old Debbie owns a gym in Minneapolis and his next meet maybe held at her gym next summer there.    On another meet in MN few years ago the President of WABDL first name GUS met and he told me he was BUZZSAW on the Total Recall movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger about same age 70 range as Arnie was.  He was just as strong and bigger than Arnie was lifting weights together back in their heyday as well.  I would have never guessed it by looking at him now but he said he got into a serious car wreck that nearly killed him decades ago and loss all of his muscle mass, etc.
