I have a trip in the planning stages that could include a trip up to Ashland Kentucky and then a ride down US 23 which appears to be dubbed the "Country Music Highway".

The other option would be to stay further west and take Kentucky Highway 32 (and other roads) down to Prestonburg, KY and then take US 23 down to my destination.

Any thoughts on these two routes?

Taking the Country Music Highway seemed to allow me to follow what I believe is the Big Sandy River.  I sort of like following rives that are close to my road.

I've taken 23 several times when I've traveled south. it has some nice sweepers you can take at speed and some elevation changes that give a scenic view. it has warning signs that flash when the signal ahead is going to change. if the light ahead is red, it will be green by the time you get to it and vise versa.  cooldude

I've ridden both when I lived in KY.  Personally I like riding through Prestonsburg but, that's just me.   Both routes offer some fun roads.   They also offer some significant wildlife encounters, stay alert.

Took a trip in late July this year to Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio - Road 23  from Johnson City TN to Columbus OH - Beautiful route and not much traffic.

you had to be very close to Willard, if you stayed on 2 lane going from Columbus to Cedar Point.

Not far away at all - Recapped the trip on google maps. We stopped in Bucyrus for gas and continued north on route 4 to Sandusky through all the beautiful cord fields of the Midwest  cooldude
