Starting the reassembly of my recently acquired 1999 Tourer. The bike has only 13,000 miles but had NO maintenance or attention. I preferred a bike that hadn’t been wrenched on by some unqualified dude but Jesus there is a lot of stuff to be done to get it in shape.

Through with motor stuff , fluids, timing belts, spark plugs, valve adjustment etc. and I’m at a point to maybe fire it up. That is until I discovered one of the plug wires broken in half. Since this one needs replacement, I think I will just replace them all and know that I am good for the next 20 years.

I see a lot of post’s referencing a write up in Shoptalk but unfortunately that respected article is no longer available. If anyone has a copy, please post a link or email it to me. If you hit the link in Shoptalk it 404s not available. I searched for a complete set of wires but they are unobtainium like many Valk parts these days. For simplicity I would like to stay OEM but if there is a better option, I am open to discussion.

What do you guys do for wires? Can I use Goldwing 1500 wire sets? (Probably easier to find.) what is the best way to do this simple task. I’m not looking for the cheapest way just the best way.

Your expertise is greatly appreciated.

the oem plug wires are copper solid core wires with a resistor in the end cap.  they will last 100Ks of miles.

u only need to replace the one, somebody broke the one in half and had to bend it back and forth a lot to do it.

Goldwing GL1500 coils all three are together in one location so the lengths will be different, but some might be the same length. Valkyrie uses the same coils.

Thank you...and that was me, now an older GEEZER!  Wink  I'll see if I can find my original write-up that used to be in Shoptalk.

ebay vendors usually sell coils and wires as a set.

I assume that you do add the stock resisters and parts into these new wires? If so, nice way to make custom wires. Is this a hard process or pretty straight forward? I would hate to have any dependability problems. I’m sure you don’t either.

spiral core wires prevent emi and rfi noise resistor not needed. I've had the morosos on my valk for 50k miles, zero problems.

this is the site i was looking for. excellent read about plug wires.

Are you replacing the ends with the Valkyrie fittings on plug and coil side? I looked at some of the sets available at Summit Racing to see what is available in the market.

no. plug ends of new wires.   coil end remove the two plastic compression fittings from the existing wires and put on the ends of the new wires and install.  inside of the coils is a copper spike that goes into the end of the plug wire.
