Have a 2003 STD. that I bought new in 2002. The bike has Never liked WOT. period.
Done checked all the stuff...over and over again.
But anywho....
Here is my problem..
Had the tank off... changed air filter...replace fuel petcock....vent hose... vacuum hose...
Checked the vent tube going up in the tank....dang... barely can blow up tube...
Well I be darned... here is my problem after all these years.
Got a piece of electric fence wire ( sort of stiff)... run it up the vent tube... stopped after about 2 inches in. Kept working back and forth... until I got it to go in about 10 inches worth... but that was all.
put it back together.....
Put about 1 gal. of gas in it..... dang... where is all fuel coming from....  Angry

Long story I know......
But, fuel is coming out of vent tube....thus it has a crack/ hole in vent tube near the bottom of the tank.......... tickedoff

Any ideas?
I am all ears....

Has any of you seen inside of a gas tank....

Looked inside one with scope as I had a tank if it had more than 3/4 tank it would leak. If memory serves me right tube started on right side and went over hump to left side. No idea how but yup small hole in tube. I picked up a used tank.

Cap off the vent tube and get a vented cap. Somebody will come up with the cap assembly you need.

I think MarkT (Horseapple Ranch) used a vented OEM cap from a Honda Magna or Shadow.  Do a search of the archives - or perhaps he can chime in.

Yep.  A Magna P/N.  Has a vent with check valve.  I'm sure you can find it at Partzilla microfiche.  Same fit & look as Valk cap. If you don't rekey it you will need a separate key as the key blank stagger is opposite the Valks'.  IOW you can't have one side of the key ignition, the other gas cap.  I just attached tiny colored wire ties to my keys to signal purpose.  Before I bought the vented cap I had drilled a small hole in the collar of the cap fitting.  Then closed it back off with a rivet after the cap replacement.  Now no rivet with the new I/S tank.  Temp workaround; you can put a coin under the cap seal to vent it.

This was over 4 yrs ago & I don't recall.  I suspect they all are but you could go ask over on a Magna forum.
