After Portland 2020 the world (obviously) turned into quite the crap show.  Clearly we couldn't gather in 2021 but how do people feel about getting together in February 2022?  I personally REALLY want to get together with folks and look forward to making this happen.  General consensus rules so sound off!

The Portland Harbor Hotel would be the central gathering point but Laura and I are thinking about renting a penthouse condo a few blocks down Commercial Street as a larger, better gathering place for the evenings.

You mean a time to gather, drink adult beverages, see friends we haven't seen in far too long, and tell lies ??  Hell yeah, we're in !!

Sherry and I are also in for getting together in the afternoon. We typically don't spend the night.  Cool

Folks can stay anywhere they want but the Portland Harbor hotel is always a great stay.  Laura and I just rented a condo at 136 Commercial Street from Wednesday through Sunday.  It'll give us a place to entertain.  We'll probably work most mornings remotely and then head out on the town for lunch and call it a day(s)

Yes it has been way too long and we would love to see everyone again. We are free most of February except for a family ski trip from Feb 17th to the 20th.

All

Just wanting to bump this up.  With the huge increase in COVID cases and Maine being in such negative light (not because of Terry - shocking!), I'm guessing this may be a bust again this year but we'll make that call as we get closed to February.  Laura and I need to cancel our apartment reservation by January 17th to get a full refund.  We may do this no matter what and if it is cool to still go to Portland we'll just snag a hotel reservation last minute.

I can neither confirm nor deny I have had anything to do with the State of Maine being in such a negative light to the rest of the world....It is not illegal if you are not caught and convicted !!

Good idea to make the call as we get close to February. Sherry and I are vaccinated and boosted but presently, we're not going out to eat. We'll see how things evolve.

We were happy to see the new guidance from the CDC on quarantining. Makes getting a mild or an asymptomatic case of COVID less burdensome.  Undecided

Not sure what Maine's variant du' jour will be...alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, nu, xi, nina, pinta, or the santa maria....
Roll the dice, stab the mice, and see what comes out the other side !!!

MASK MANDATE now in effect in Portland......
If you are thinking about / planning on going to Portland next month, check to see what is required.

As of now a mask is required at all indoor events, or proof of vaccinations ( boosters ?? )
Fines will be doled out if you fail to follow protocol.....

Their rules....your choice to visit there or not !!

We cancelled our apartment rental so we could ensure a 100% refund.  If Portland does turn out to be a go we'll just snag a room at the PHH last minute.  Things aren't looking good.  We just sent all staff home for the next 2 weeks and have instituted mandatory testing before any return to the office.  We'll revisit in a few weeks and decide if we need to extend.

COVID blows balls

Definitely! This summer and into the fall, I naively thought fully vaccinated people were all done with COVID. Then came Omicron.

My younger daughter and her boy friend got COVID right before XMAS, despite the fact that they recovered from their first bout of COVID in January 2021 and got fully vaccinated in the Fall. But doing Karaoke in a crowded bar, probably was not a good idea. They did not see us on XMAS day this year. We exchanged gifts outside and masked 4 days later. Thankfully my son was able to travel safely from San Francisco and back for XMAS w/o getting sick. He was able to get a PCR test with a negative result prior to his flight back.

Man, I hope the Omicron out break reaches it's peak soon with a subsequent rapid decline. Could be wishful thinking.  Undecided

Well, this one is tough for us but we are going to go ahead and pull out of Portland this year.  Thinking about the group as a whole, especially those with pre-existing conditions (Kathy, Terry, etc.), I just can't in all good conscious suggest that, or encourage that we all gather as a large group.  I know, I suck.  Not that that doesn't mean folks can and shouldn't go but we are going to sit this one out.

About 3 weeks ago I had a call with Bernie and he said they would be very happy to host a gathering in June at their place in the back yard by the pool.

If you go, enjoy and stay safe.  Hope to see everyone early this summer at Bernie's.  I'll coordinate with him on a plan
