https://www.nj.com/warren/2021/10/missing-warren-county-man-killed-in-motorcycle-crash-state-police-say.html

This poor man went missing for 5 days. I’m unfamiliar with the area so I don’t know the road conditions up there or if he went off the side out of sight.

“The search for a missing Warren County man came to a heartbreaking end this week after he was found dead following a crash, New Jersey State Police report.”

“Edward “Gavin” Mitchell was last seen the night of Oct. 8 leaving Belvidere, and family and friends posted search parties on Facebook in the following days to look for him.”

“Troopers said Mitchell’s body was located on Wednesday in Hope Township.”

“The preliminary investigation indicates Mitchell was driving his 2004 Harley-Davidson north on Route 609 in near milepost 1.7, when the motorcycle crossed over the oncoming traffic lane and went off the road, ejecting Mitchell, state police said.”

Ride safe, watch out for yourselves.

I ride alone 99% of the time.  Being retired, no other riders I want to ride with, and just like riding alone,  I tell the DW where I am headed and when should be back.

Do have some roads that have rather steep drop offs.  But don't ride them this time of the year, frost/snow keeps me out of these areas till spring.   Also ridden most of the roads around here at least twice so know which ones can/could have frost on shaded corners.  AND don't leave home till after lunch.

If that HD rider had let folks know where he was going, good chance it wouldn't have taken as long to find  him.   For those here who don't have a DW or pardoner, please let someone know where you are going and when you'll be back.

Good practice cooldude...I always file a float plan/flight plan when fishing/boating or riding including Lat/Long or road route, ETD & ETA. I've pulled more floaters than I can count out of the Gulf of Mexico while in the Coast Guard.

Little hint for you boaters...Stay with the boat. We ALWAYS find the boat, not so much for the ones that swim for shore.

In elementary school, I found two different floaters (different times) out on our Lake Erie dock.

Both times after storms and no way to know if they tried swimming from a capsized boat or not.

Fortunately, floaters are nearly always face down, so they just look like they are floating there looking at the bottom.

My dad always made me go in and call the cops, and not come back out to see them fish them out (which was OK with me).

Many years later, we had brand new neighbors two houses down and there was a little remnant of an old concrete jetty sticking out in the water covered with slippery seaweed.  He went out after dinner one night to look at the lake, and his wife found him floating right there, face down.  Had two little kids.

If I ever tumble off a mountain riding, I hope I go quick, and not be still alive for the critters, bugs and vultures to start chewing on while I'm sill alive.  That would suck.  I'd probably be armed, but would be shooting to draw attention, not to end it (which would also suck).

Was with you until the critters eatin on ya.

I hope I crash near a topless bar and have the gals run out do their best to revive me. While I'm alive of course, as I'd like to see it too.

I guess we see things from a different perspective.

If you crash near a topless bar, it's gonna be in town, not some remote hillside.

But I like how you think.   Grin

many off roaders and hikers use SPOT

https://www.findmespot.com/en-us/

SPOT offers peace of mind, using 100% satellite technology. SPOT products keep you connected to the people and things that matter most. SPOT allows you to track assets, send and receive messages, send your GPS position and status, mark waypoints, track your progress on SPOT Mapping and notify search and rescue officials in the event of an emergency.

Leaves are a nightmare whether in a car, truck or bike, especially when they accumulate in spots, dry on top, wet underneath. You’ll go slip sliding away.

I'm not real pleased with the leaves (and acorns and branches) that fall (and blow into) in my yard for cleanup either, especially after yesterday's big wind and rain.

I won't die of a bike accident; it'll be the heart attack while operating the blower, chipper vac, lawnmower, rake and broom.  Cleanup always starts with my roof.  Maybe I'll get lucky and fall off.

Thankfully leaves are not the big problem around here,  Pine needles and cones are.  Ponderosa pine cones are about the same size as the pineapple grenades, can move you around on a curve.  Then to Sugar Pine has cones that can be 9-11 inches long and 4" in diameter.  thankfully not many near the roads I ride.

Gravel on right hand turns are also a big issue around here on roads that don't have a tarmac shoulders.  Trucks pulling trailers cut the corners a little and throw gravel on the road.  Can cause the pucker factor to go up.  2funny

No matter where one rides, there are always something to help keep you awake.
