OMG !
You wonder how this can happen. It seems like it should be easy to fix, but, considering government is involved,,,, no matter what government,,,,,

Actually, no I don't wonder how. While I do enjoy living in MS and glad I moved here, I'm not surprised a MS builder built the home on the wrong lot. Everyone seems to think they are builders in my area. I've seen some very slip shod housing next to some really nice looking homes. Rams

A home built on the wrong lot, sure seems that should have been caught and fixed one way or another long ago.
For this to continue as it has is just head shaking stupidity.

Don't tell JB about it. Next thing he'll be wanting to build everyone $236 homes. And it won't cost us anything.

My friend almost lost his mothers home in a tax sale.
The sister was living in the home by agreement and paying half the taxes or so it was arranged. My friend was giving the sister half the money for the taxes and she was supposed to pay them. Well it turns out she was pocketing the money and not paying the taxes. Someone already bought the note and he had to pay that note back to keep the house and the sister refused to move out or apologize.

It happens. Some folks never admit an error and refuse to apologize............... Some things just don't wash away.

The saying “no good deed goes unpunished “ is as true today as ever. In your friends case he should have paid “his share” the tax directly to the township. Trust is a difficult thing even with family.

I have my own nightmare I’ll share even though it will expose my naivety. A good friend of mine and I bought a rental property together, it was a bank repo and needed a lot of work. About 4 years in I find out the bank is about to foreclose on us. My friend, without explanation had stop making the bank payments. I had to scramble and take over the loan which was for two separate properties. The deed for one of the properties was transferred into my name only and the other property was missed and my friends name remained on the deed.
Fast forward 12 years and I have a buyer lined up to buy the property on contract. We do our deal and after a number of years an opportunity comes up for my guy to sell his stake in the property and pay me off. During his time of ownership it came to our attention that my friends name was on the deed. I went to a lawyer and got the proper paperwork completed to have him removed from the deed which my friend signed no problem. This time the property will be transferred out of my name to the new owners and a title search is done as a normal course of business.
Now for the shocker! During the time that my friends name was on the deed of one of the houses, the IRS had filed tax liens in the total amount of $225,000 over a four year period. Apparently just because I had made all the payments and my name was on the deeds, there was no requirement that I be notified about the liens. I had a lot of sleepless nights over this and my salvation from this nightmare was the guy I had the contract with was a Christian man and we were able to work things out. The liens were for 10 years and the last one matured in December of 2020 and the IRS never tried to enforce their liens in any way. My friend turned out to be a real scoundrel. While all this was going on, he scammed two other really good friends out of $400,000 and had offered to yet me in on the “deal” for $125,000. He was smart enough to keep his name out of any paperwork pertaining to the scam so no jail time for him but his “partner in crime” is still serving time.
Sadly, my friend has wasted all his talents, and alienated his most trusted friends who had done much for him in the past.

Amazing stories. I guess you really can't trust anyone can you.
My grandfather always drilled it into me to never have a partner in anything. If I couldn't do something on my own, don't do it until you can.
