Read this thread.

http://www.gout-pal.com/gout-pal-forum/gout-cures/black-bean-cure-for-gout

For the lazy.

200gms of dried black beans.

Soak for 3 hours and throw the liquid away.

Add 2 litres of water to the soaked beans.

Bring to a hard boil for at least 10 minutes.

Low simmer for a further 90 minutes.

Drain beans keeping the broth. Discard beans cause beans can give you gout.

Drink some of the broth - about 6 to 8 mouthfuls.

Portion out the remainder and freeze for further consumption.

Add seasonings to the broth as needed to make more palatable. I added Rosemary, Thyme and Thai Hot Chili and Garlic paste as an experiment. Tasted pretty good..

Thanks Britman. I have not had a flare up in about a year. It is some painful stuff. Eveytime you get a flair up the uric acid crystals are doing permant damage in your joints. I like a drink here and there, and that doesnt help any(Bushmills 10 single malt  cooldude ). Ill try the BBB next time it hits.

Bush Natural Light Beer will take me down to the floor for about 36 hours. My first gout attack was at Cheaha after drinking too much of Redvalk's most welcome beer supply. I woke up at about 3 in the morning with a right big toe I wanted to hack off with a blunt fork. Indomethacin is your friend - but if Black Bean Broth (BBB) works that'll be great news. The thread link I posted is worth reading.

Have you tried Jameson 18 year? That's the dog bollocks. Boy it's good.

I'm not a Scotch fan.

Yes love the Jamison too, Bushmills is Irish Wiskey not Scotch. What is Indomethacin? My doc gives me Allupurinol and Methylpredisone.

Allopurinal is good and drink a glass of cranberry juice every day. I took the allopurinal for 4 years and started drinking the cranberry juice every day as well as 2 quarts of water and I have not had gout in 6 years. I no longer take the allopurinal.

A little ex-wife humor here. My oldest daughter lives near her mother, who gets bouts of gout from time to time and really suffers when it hits. My daughter was telling me about it, and I got this epiphany....so told my daughter about it. About killed me to keep my voice steady on the phone while telling her about my home remedy. Told her to inform her mother to go to the drug store and get the smallest size condoms she could find and slip one over her toe. I then covered the mouthpiece for a moment....long pause, then my daughter says "really, how does that help?" I told her it works just like a support hose/stocking, applies pressure from all sides and keeps the blood from pooling. Don' recall all the crap I told her. Two days later I get this phone call from my son-in-law, he's dying laughing. Seems my ex did as told by our daughter, and they were in the living room attempting to roll the condom over her big toe. I could hear the "carrying's on" in the background. Another couple days and my daughter calls me....."dad, you're so full of sh** I can smell you from here."  She told me my ex went to the dr. about her condition with the condom on her toe and he wondered what the hell that was all about. Apparently after she left, he called my daughter and said next time your dad comes to visit, I want to meet him....that was a classic.

My ex usually is quite ready to chat when I visit my daughter, but the last time I was there she really unloaded on me.....guess she was kinda PO'd. I still laugh whenever I think about it. I was just trying to help!?!?!   angel

The rice culture's still hanging on in South Carolina, in case anyone's interested in "the good stuff"...

Do they still grow "good old rice" down in the gulf anywhere?

I too, can be tempted to attack the 'Big Toe' with a dull knife, when I get a bout with the gout...

As mentioned above, the Black Cherry juice or Blueberry juice, is a pretty quick cure.  I found a company (Flavonoid Sciences) that makes 'softgels' in pure Blueberry and Black Cherry, along with a few other flavors/types...  1 soft gel, is has the same nutritional value as 1/2 cup of wild berries.

When I have a bout, I eat those soft gels like Pez, and I'm usually walking (with a shoe on) within a day or so...

YMMV...

Thanks for the information. I'll give it a try.I have had gout and been on alopurinol for years. I have been traveling back and forth to china for 12 years and never had a gout attack during my trips. I always thought it may be from something they put in their food, maybe it's Black Bean Juice.

I don't have gout (not likely to get a rich white man's disease) but I also eat dried blue berries and cherries on my morning oat meal so that may help.

I wish I had the $$$ you allude to  Smiley

Years ago, my father in law suffered with gout. The doc told him to quit drinking any dark drinks such as coffee, tea and dark sodas and he complied. The gout went away gradually and hasn't returned. I used to have some joint pain, not sure if gout, and quit drinking DR. Pepper. The pain went away and returns almost immediately when I backslide.

Reminds me of the old goat recipe.  Boil a goat leg for 8 hours with a brick in the bottom of the pot.  After 8 hours of boiling, remove the goat leg and the brick.  Throw away the goat leg and eat the brick.
