Hi,
I have a set of black saddlebags, and a black trunk, and want to buy a Woody faring. The bike is a 98 candy red and cream two tone. Question is should I have the bike painted black, or have all the extras painted two tone. What do you think?

Personally, I'd paint it 2-tone.  The Woody fairing will probably come in black gel-coat, which you'll probably want to paint anyways.  Plus, the fairing, trunk and bags are add-ons to your bike.  Painting them 2-tone to match would maintain the original color of the bike.

The other option would be to strip the entire thing down and paint everything custom.

Definitely paint the bags and trunk to match or go with something totally different.

my I/S is all black, the only thing that raises my eye brow are all the two tone ones out there. character!!!! Wink i will always believe my 99 is the best looking, but if i have to get my second one, if this one ever wears out, it would definately be 2 tone.
my opinion from a solid black owner.

I have the same issue. I have a two tone, (same color as yours) and I bought a set of bags in primer and a memphis shades fairing in black. My bike is in pefect condition so I did not want to sand the paint to change the color so I decided to buy a set of tins and an interstate tank and paint everything a different color, something that stands out a little from the other Valks. I will sell the original tins when I am done.
Hopefully it will get done this spring.

Hi,
So what do you think it will cost by the time you get used cans, and have it all painted? I know a solid color has got to be cheaper then two tone and pin striped? Having two bikes, I was thinking of having everything painted one solid color, but I too like the look of the two tone.

I have had a black I/S for over two years and recently acquired a red & cream tourer.  The color on the tourer sure does catch my eye more.  Could be because it is new to me?  I also had a Kawasaki 1500 F.I. that I gave to my oldest son shortly after painting it "blueberry blue" with white stripes.  It is also pretty.  Just do what you think that you will like the best, but be shure that you get a good painter if you are not going to do it yourself.  A cheap paint job is usually "cheap"....JTL  Cry

I would say strip in the riding "off season" and make it 100% yours!

I would not paint it black unless you like having a dirty bike.  I can't keep mine clean and have really considered a different color

Lots of black Valkyrie's out there...I'd paint them to match the bike and I'm bettin' it will look sweet that color combo...Here's my 1998 Standard ....My saddlebags came off a 1999 Tourer they was black ...My trunk came off a 2001 Interstate it was red/black ...The fairing was hand made by none other than Woody when he worked for Hoppe Fairings.

You could always ask if anyone wants to trade tins with ya.  I have a red & white, but I'm partial to the fast black myself.  To each his own.

I'd paint the new parts to match the bike.  My saddlebags were sedona red / cream when I got them.

Ok, you got me sold, but I think it will have to wait till I have all three parts. I am looking for a faring, one of woody's is the way I leaning, but would like to find something around the same price that has room to mount a windshild pouch too. Be nice if they got a little storage built in. Tried to upload some pictures, but looks like work has us locked down, so maybe tonight. Mounted the bags, and the trunk, as is for now till I get a faring. Anyone wired one of the VIP trunks before? Looks like a few too many wires at first look.
