Problem with Final Drive reinstall
«

Am I doing something wrong here?
The shaft seems snug at the wheel end but can't get the four bolts through the holes.
I've waggled it and turned it until I can feel it centred but it doesn't slide in that last bit.
Do I just keep waggling it?

It is a normal Valkyrie thing. When it goes in, it will be in and
right. Sometimes it is hard for me, other times it plops right in.
People say that lifting the swingarm helps to guide the shaft
into the ujoint... assuming your shocks are off, have a look
down the swingarm with your flashlight at your target - the
ujoint - you can easily move the very light swingarm up and
down and see and how the ujoint is hanging down at the other
end...

Try turning the gears (put flang in so you have something to grab) back and forth to line up the splines on the u-joint. The spring will push out a little but doesn’t look seated. If it feels like it just keeps spinning, try putting bike in gear. Also, what Mike said.

SORTED
You were right.
I had already lifted the swing arm up to help me but when I shone a torch up there I could see that the far end had dropped down, meaning the shaft wouldn't fully engage.
With an additional bit of persuasion by fitting the flange I was able to twist and slot fully in.
I've now just light finger tightened in before attaching the wheel.

Knapdog, What most are not saying here, is that putting the axel into the U-Joint has helped many of us with expanding our vocabulary. Many of interesting words are spoken during this process. Sometimes it slips right in, sometimes it takes 2 or 10 tries. This is normal for most of us.

Thank you.
The language is often "blue" in my garage.

I show this at Inzane every time...and I see you have it sorted, but for future reference:
1) Stick the rear drive in like you have it...with the 4 bolts starting into the holes.
2) Lift the swing-arm as high as it will go.
3) Grab the rear drive and wiggle the crap out of it.
Goes home, every time, less than 5 seconds. It can't miss. If it goes home, it's in the ujoint.
