I have degenerative disc disease. My back goes out every few years
and leaves me in misery for about a week. Thanksgiving day My son
and I went out to crank the two Valkyries that had been sitting for a
while now because of work..Too much of it. Black one finally fired up
so I took it for a short ride. Came back and tried to start the Blue and
White one and there just wasn't enough battery to fire the coils and spin
it over so I put the battery maintainer on it and after a few minutes it
fired right up. Short ride on it then came back and hooked the battery
maintainer back up to it bent over to turn it so I could see the lights
and Bam back goes out. Out of work all the next week. My son works
with me and Monday morning one of our coworkers asked him what
happened to me. My son told him exactly what happened. Coworker
called me that afternoon to inform me that several others asked about
me he said I didn't want to tell them that your back went out from
just bending over so I told them that you were working on your
Valkyrie and you got pissed and you threw your back out picking it
up and slamming it on the floor.  Grin  What a pal.

When my low back decided to get symptomatic for the least little things, like bending and stooping, I took to wearing a stretchy back belt before most any physical activity (including riding).  More than anything else, it served as a constant reminder to be careful during my activities.

For some reason or other, that easy-back-going-out-and-getting-painful on me (for days and weeks) has completely disappeared.  I never went to any doctors (except once 20 years ago).  His expensive advice was that I had arthritis and needed to be careful.  Duh.

Most of us abuse our bodies trying to do things we shouldn't/wouldn't if we really thought about it before hand.   That specifically applies to our backs more than anything else.   Once things start going south, ya just gotta think about it.   Yeah, I know, bending over isn't much but it could be and as has worked out this time, it was.   Sorry to learn you're in pain.   Get better and as my doc says, if it hurts, don't do it.  Wink
I've got some bad knees due to the abuse I gave them in my younger dumber days.   They remind me at every opportunity that they are tired and worn out.   I have learned to listen to them.

20 or so years ago is when I went to a spinal doctor and he told me
about the Disc Disease. I don't think it is Disc Disease I think it was
caused by a Honda XR600 dirt bike riding for years every weekend
and kept riding after the diagnosis. It would be more understandable
to me if I was doing heavy lifting but every time it has went out it's
for the least little thing even just moving the wrong way. Careful is
the key..I have never felt pain like two Disc gnawing on a nerve..

would come back to haunt me I may have modified them

cooldude I have got pretty good at muddling.  Grin  I remember
back in the middle 80's I worked at Coca Cola on the vending
machine delivery crew before I became a service tech. We were
putting a machine in a bank and had to take it up two flights of
stairs on a large hand truck with straps and the fifty couple year
old service man in that county met us to help. When it came to
the stairs he said I better not strain too much my back might go
out. Me being 21 years old and bulletproof I asked my partner
later on did you hear that back going out crap he agreed and we
laughed. Fast forward Karma might be biting me because I now
know what he was talking about.  2funny

The thing that does more for my low back than anything else when it gets symptomatic is walking.  Go slow if painful, but keep going.

If I sit it does not get better.

Sorry to hear of your back issues, I understand your pain.

My brother recently found this when he was looking into getting my dad(89) help for his severe back issues.

Not recommending you go to Florida but this procedure seems to have some promise, maybe there is someone in your area who uses this procedure.

Good luck, feel better

is there anything that can be done surgery wise to help alleviate the pain?

physical therapy Dr., who had hip replacement surgery herself also in her late 40's, early 50's,  told me I will need it done sooner vs. later not much can be done otherwise after reviewing my xrays, etc.  She referred me to the surgeon but have not made an appt. to see him yet.   There is cortisone shots I could do for short term help but not a cure or Prolotherapy which I know 2 people who have done that with good enough success to help postpone surgery the past 4 years or so.    What about Prolotherapy for back pain also?  Sounds like though most insurance companies do not pay for it, but could be wrong?

I can walk and bend over and go up steps (most all days) but with very NOT long walks, etc. and the more I am up on my feet, the less I can walk and bend over, etc.    PT DR. did say the surgeons ideally want BMI under 40 and I am around 41 so guessing they want me to loose 20-25 lbs. before surgery maybe sometime in 2022?
