What is the difference between the 412's and the 440's, other than the $250-300 in the price. Between the two of us, my wife and I weigh in at around 360 lbs. Will the 412's hold up as well as the 440's? We ride mostly on the back-roads, at the posted speed limit. On vacation, we tow a trailer behind us, and hit the interstates only if we are trying to make a little time. TIA for any and all advice, etc.

The 440's have a valving system in them, which is better, and adds to the cost. They are good.

If you are riding and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I'd recommend the 12.5 " HD 412's! I just happen to have a almost brand new set with those exact specs for sale if your interested. Had 'em on my IS for about 200 miles but found with my car tire I didn't have quite enough clearance on the big bumps riding 2 up. No problems solo. Just got myself a low miles used stock IS shocks instead.

I don't know anything about the 412s.. I like the 440s.. It looks like your on a Tour model. I would guess that when I ride two up our weight is about the same as yours and I have Std 440s which have worked fine for us for the past 10 or 11 years.. Some will probably recommend the HD 440s..

I use the 440 HD, ride solo most of the time, set near the light setting, and love them. MO
