P1800 had  3 of those,still driving a Volv0,but not a million mile one just a 98 s70 glt only 108000 on the clock.I've seen some pretty wild customs done from the p1800,that body style still attracts my attention.

The alternator was under the engine on the passing side above the right axle. It took over three hours to replace. It took over eight hours to replace the timing belt. I could go on but you get the jist. That was just one engine but this was common for GM. Oh I've seen many other companies follies too but I was a GM tech most of my career.

Yep, I'm familiar with that engine.   Put one in an 88 Fiero.  Ran like a scalded dog.   I saw the original location of that alternator and didn't like it at all.   Moved it up on the engine where the power steering had been previously located.   Did the same thing when I did a 3800SC install into another Fiero.   Fieros didn't have power steering so, it worked well.
