I saw a guy on a scooter wearing some kind of a leg covering that looked like they zipped up. They were leather and covered about 3/4 of his leg. I tried to run him down to ask where he purchased them but, damn them scoot`s are fast. Anyone know of a suppiler of something like this. I think they would stop the need for boots in my case. My explaining of these may be awful , they looked like a pair of boots with the bottom cut off. TIA for any help.

I wear gaiters all the time for backpacking in rough terrain with scratchy brush. (Especially when wearing shorts. Not a pretty sight, but comfortable.) They are also really nice for riding in rain because the ones I use are Gore-Tex and keep water from getting over the top of my short boots. I think I got mine from REI. Several people make good ones. Mine zip closed in the back and has a hook on the front to catch your boot laces. They have a strap that goes under the sole of your boot to keep them down, but I find it is unnecessary. They stay in place just fine without it.

They did look like a pair of riding boots, less bottoms. Gaiters are close in looks but fit was better on leg. Thanks for help.

Jess, that was the line I was thinking of also. In the early days of my motor assignment, we wore bellowed pants and leggins as they were called back then or long boots...... Safety reasons they said.....

those half chaps look interesting, might be more comfortable during warm weather riding than full chaps.

Gaitors, or hip boots or whatever. As everyone has experienced, riding in light/med rain we mostly stay dry when moving, except your lower legs from knees down get wet. So a pair of goretex gaiters to the knee would work pretty well.
But what happens when the heavens open up, or you get stopped in traffic; anything not covered gets wet is what happens. A set of waterproof gaiters is about the same price as a set of slip-on rain pants (which usually come in a set of rain gear). My rain gear never leaves the bike, so I see no percentage in having gaiters over a set of rain pants. Cost the same or more than pants, probably take up more room than tightly rolled rain pants, and only give coverage to the knees. AND a set of raingear can always be used to stay warm if the weather changes on the ride.
I see no percentage in ankle boots/low quarters either, I ride year round in 8" swat boots, mostly waterproof. JMHO

I like the Gaiters to keep the cold air from blowing up my pants legs.

I also have this problem in spring and fall, esp since I have gone from classic to relaxed fit jeans in my old age. I spent a number of years wearing military BDUs with boot blousers. Now I use boot blousers with jeans and riding boots to keep cold air from blowing up my pants legs (esp on the Hwy pegs). Just clip the blouser bands around your sox at the top of your boots and roll your pants hem underneath. No more cold up the pants. They are still 50 cents on base, but these are all of $1.75. http://www.miluniform.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3614

Been using a Gaitor type of garment for several years. The single most used - and most bang for the buck - M/C related item I've ever purchased. A rather inexpensive device made of quilted layers of nylon fabric with a Velcro closure. Wraps from ankle to below the knee. Keeps the cold air from blowing up the pant leg. We have "his" and "hers". Purchased from the GoldWing magazine several years ago. Don't leave home without'em. Ymmv,
