He was one of the first old hippie characters.  (now they're all old)

Funny guy.

My favorite bit of his was when he agreed to be tested by a Dr or DMV guy on the radio to see how drinking impaired his driving in a studio test.  To the tester's chagrin, Johnny Fever got better at driving the drunker he got.

(nothing beats the turkeys thrown out of the helicopter bit though.  As God is my witness, I thought they could fly!  )

A funny show with a group of mismatched characters who all seemed to pull together to make the radio station, WKRP, function hour-to-hour.

The first episode, where the format of the station changes from boring classical/pop music to rock and roll, as the character of Dr. Johnny Fever emerges in a split second from one record to the next.

The younger generation will not relate to this, as there are no longer DJs on the radio these days; certainly not like the Doctor.

Thank you for the laughs Mr. Hesseman.  Well done and rest easy in your peace. angel

I think he made the show to like watching more so than the other characters, although Loni Anderson was still the main reason I watched that show as a kid.     Shocked Shocked Shocked

Yup he was great in that role.  I used to deejay part time at a local classic rock station years ago.  Pretty sure I wasn't as smooth as Johnny Fever!
