Better not let bsnicely catch you on the road with this one cause it's way over-loaded  . You'll need a 5 axle trailer and a drop axle on the Pete to get that load legal Cheesy

what scale 1/64, 1/87

These happen to be 1/87th......most of my cars and trucks are 1/18th scale and a few 1/24th....I prefer the 1/18th scale, but a lot of the really detailed models in that size are $$$.... Sad

Besides my 1/18th scale motorcycles I like my model cars to be 1/87 so that they work with my HO scale buildings.

Stanley, you need to pick up a few buildings and make a main street to really show off those 1/87 trucks and equipment.

Then you need to check out US1, Tyco attempted to have racing big rigs. They even had Marvel put together a 12 part mini-series of comics to help make the playset make some sense...and then they went into space.

Just can't beat suspenseful 'trucker' lingo.

Slot cars are a blast...and can be fairly cheap too depending on what class you run.  When I was a kid, there was a track close to my house.  We rented cars a few times, then eventually bought some Womps.  Right after that, the track closed and our cars just collected dust for about 15 years or so.  Then, after graduating from college, I moved to Allentown, PA and found a hobby store in Nazereth, PA (Trains and Lanes Hobbies) that had a couple slot tracks.  What's more, I had a buddy out there that had cars from when he was a kid too.  So we dusted them off and took them up there.  Since he had been running them when he was an older kid than me, he actually knew some setup stuff to make them stay on the tracks better...like bending the chassis and adding some lead at the front to weight the blade.  We used to build dirt modified bodies out of manila folders and run those...it was cool.  We even hod rodded them up with faster motors...not legal for Womp class, but we weren't racing anyways...except for against each other.  People were blown away at how fast our Womp cars were...lol!  I ended up buying a new Flexi-car that is pretty fast too.  Alot of fun.  I don't live out there now, so my cars haven't seen any action in about 10 years or so.

I eventually got into racing RC cars.  Now that is FUN!!!  But you could spend a ton of $$money$$ on that.  My little brother, Jason, was way into it and he got me started.  We used to joke about how much money's worth of equipment we would carry into the track each week.  Between batteries, cars, chargers, tires, motors, spare parts, tools, etc, we were probaby carrying close to $6000 in "stuff" between us.  Here's a pic of a few of our cars (I painted most of these):

I haven't run them in several years.  Jason was killed in a MC accident in 2002, then I got married in 2003...had kids...life in general.  I went a few times after he died, but it just wasn't the same.  And now, the 2 tracks we went to have since closed shop.  I still have all of our stuff though.  So really, I'm only a few fresh battery packs away from being able to get my kids into it when they get a little older...if there are any tracks left around.

Tracks have been coming and going around here for years. I think when they are attached to stores the overhead gets them. The one RC track that sounds like it is making money is a dirt RC track in Cherryville, NC.  Two friends took a barn that they weren't using and banked the inside into a track. They started by having friends over to race on it. Eventually more and more people were showing up. Now they have free open to the public trail days, and weekend tournaments, vendors and food (last I heard).  It's nice when people are doing what they enjoy and making a small profit. They won't get rich, but they're having fun and making just a little.

Actually, around here, the track up in Beaver, PA that we went to was one of the few things keeping the hobby store alive.  I was talking to the owner one day and he said that they did $5 in business in an entire day...kinda tough keeping a store open like that.  But on Saturdays when he ran the races (upstairs from the hobby store), he was pulling down a about a grand or so in track fees (about 50 cars at around $10/car), food (he always ordered a bunch of pizza and sold it $1 a slice) and the associated spare parts he sold downstairs...always well stocked.  But even that was drying up and not enough to keep it going.  One thing that really killed him was a HobbyShack (chain-type hobby store) opened in Robinson between him and Pittsburgh and points south.  So he lost alot of business when they went in.  It's kind of sad, really.

The other track we raced at wasn't even really associated with a hobby store.  There was just this guy that his dad owned a storefront flower shop in Washington, PA across from the courthouse and he basically had the entire basement to run his RC track.  But then the city of Washington bought his dad's building so he lost the track space.  He re-opened a track for a couple years at the Washington Mall.  It is a Mall that has been dying a slow death for years and at the time was practically empty of tenants.  So he knew the Mall manager and was able to get a space pretty cheap...essentially for whatever track fees he collected.  But then he received notice from the mall that they were closing the mall for demolition (still hasn't happened) and that all tenants had to vacate by a certain date.  I think he gave up at that point as I've lost touch with him since I wasn't racing any more.

Bob E, sorry about your brother, i like that ford Coup paint job, i would go watch the Nitro RC cars down in VA in a shopping Mall parking lot awesome!! these old tracks are hard to find, the one in CA was called Hobby City by Knotts Berry farm, back in the 70's, after that i have not seen a slot car track for 30 years till i moved to the No east, they had one in a mall also, but the mall was dying too, so the guys i knew had bought the track and started this raceway in a old textile mill. Him and his wife met at the slot car track in the mall and got married, they are the owners and work full time, and the track is open after 5 pm and on weekends so they can keep cost down. you can see their story on their web page about us.

Thanks.  I didn't paint the Ford Coupe or the blue touring car with the orange arrow.  The coupe came with that body painted (bought used) and my brother painted the touring car.  But I painted the truck and the other 2 oval cars and another truck I have.  I painted a new body for the coupe that is modelled after a real car that I saw at a car show.  It came out real nice...almost identical.  I'll have to snap a pic of it and post it up when I get a chance.

I never really raced nitro cars outdoors.  I do have a nitro T-Maxx truck that I used to play with out in the yard, but never raced it.  We always raced these electric cars indoors on a carpet track.  I did run the oval car a couple times on an outdoor paved track.  But they weren't getting enough people out to keep holding races.  It was a pretty big track and was real fast.  But you would be surprised how little grip there is on asphalt compared to a carpet.  I had to run different tires (expensive) and a different tire compound (real sticky) plus most people ran a big wing on the car for downforce.  They got around pretty good after that, though.  It was crazy though because you basically had to quit steering them halfway through the turn because the cars would get into a sideways drift.  If you held the wheel too long, you would just loop in exiting the corner.  It was cool...but it was rough on the cars though.  That pavement would really tear them up.
