Having a week in the shop working on customers stuff and I found a nice piece of cherry laying around. So before I quit for the day I turned it into a gun rack for under the fireplace mantle. Even Judy likes it.   cooldude

That is great and looks good.   cooldude

But do you use that fireplace?  It looks like it could get a bit hot on the rifle with a blazing fire.

I have a nice old four rifle rack on my rec room wall over my Turkish camel bar with old Mausers with correct bayonets on them.   (not great self defense with the old ammo stored away, but one hell of a bunch of spears)  Grin

Sort of like these:

Jess most of the time and definitely during a fire in the fireplace the Red Ryder BB gun will ride the rack.

 cooldude cooldude

Can that be seen from the front door (or window)?

Massad Ayoob, in one of his early books on self defense and security, wrote that he hung a broken gun in plain view of his front door/windows.  He always looked for it when he came home, knowing if someone had been in there, they had likely taken (or moved) it.  Like an early warning device.

Ya,  I don’t plan on leaving the gun out when I’m not home. It will be locked in the gun closet if it’s not with me.

Very nice. 2 nice lever guns and I really like the Varner. It looks like a tack driver.

It’s hard to tell from the pics. Is that used brass inset in the horizontal strut ?

Yep, ten fired .357 cases. They can slide out and I could store ten live rounds there. The hole depth is such that live rounds won’t seat all the way so you can grab them

Thats a nicer pic, shows how beautiful that gun is !

I'm a big fan of rolling/swinging/falling blocks. It looks like a Stevens.

It’s modeled after the Stevens. Many feel Varner made improvements on the design. The half octagonal barrel is heavier and the case hardening was done on the higher end models. I really like it

I really like it too, may have to look into getting one. I have a few old rolling/falling blocks, but, none in .22. I'd like to do more plinking.
