Had one of the worst days of my life yesterday. I have been working hard on getting all my 92 yr old uncles pertinent information together to get him into a VA nursing home. Ww2 he was in the Marines but never went overseas. Super nice guy. He was born in 1929….the same year Wyatt Earp died. Anyways, he got covid and tested positive in January….I took him to the VA and he was in their covid ward for 2 1/2 weeks then transferred over to a Houston VA Contract Nursing home. To get him in i had to make many trips to his apartment rounding up all his records and vital information papers. I found his medicare card, supplemental insurance papers, drivers license, Marine discharge papers, bank account info, credit cards, title to his car, social security card, VA papers, passport….and many more vital papers. I had Power of Attorney papers, Medical Power of Attorney papers, his will, and Legal Guardian papers. All this info in a briefcase. i went to his bank and was invoking power of attorney to get on his bank account so I can write checks to pay his bills. All went well. Went to my car and drove across the street and went into a Subway Sandwich shop and when I came out my truck had been broken into and they got all my uncles vital papers. Everything thing my uncle ever was was in that briefcase…..and I lost it all. I think they followed me out of the bank. I was and am just sick about it. Nothing to do but start over. Started gathering info again today…..sorry ass theives

Sorry a?? thieves.
I know you know this but..... with all that data they could do a bunch of stuff. I don't know what is the correct course of action to protect his interests but..... that would be my first thought.

hope some security cameras at food place or bank got something on video, check with them both and local police.
If you locked your truck they must be good crooks jimmying the lock or breaking the window without even being noticed from others around only taking 5 minutes or so to get the food I would imagine.
the scumbags got lucky you did not notice the robbery not sure I could have controlled myself seeing anyone messing with my vehicles in a parking lot or wherever else.
am guessing was a younger crowd doing the robbing since more and more teenagers even are stealing cars being super brave going into people's yards right into owner's driveways and stealing cars going for joy rides and ditching the cars for the fun of it.

This is going to cause major problems for us. With no power of attorney I am very limited incwhat I can do for him. He is not in his right mind so cant get another. With no ID you cant fill out forms with his info. Its just creating a nightmare. The stores around have cameras but the police after asking the employees said no one knows anything about them or who even ownsm them. It is what it is….jyst gotta take it a step at a time

My uncle we are talking about was a big time BMW motorcycle rider. Rode all over the US on many trips. Earned the BMW 100,000 mile award. At 75 he did a 10,000 mile ride to the very extreme paved roads of the 4 corners of the United States. I found this paper he once wrote in his papers…..

I have seen the trees of the Carolinas dressed for Fall…
I have crossed The Father of Waters many times in many places…
I have seen many sunrises on a Florida Beach….and had crawfish and beer spilled on me in Breaux Bridge
and Saint Martinville.
I have crossed the Tropic of Cancer South of Ciudad Victoria, Mexico, and sat under a lemon tree around a
Pool with good and true friends drinking Bohemia.
I have been in The Garden of the Gods and over Wolf Creek Pass and did my 1,000 mile day with a hangover.
I have crossed the plains of western Texas and seen the snow of Ruidosa.
I have traveled Oak Creek Canyon south of Flagstaff and seen the hundreds of years of gross indignation in the eyes of the Apache, Navaho, and Hopi.
I have seen the look in my owner’s eyes early one morning in Grants, New Mexico while looking at a 5 yr old Indian boy, a REAL American, who would never have the chance to be a “real American”…and it hurt.
I have been up and down the steep hills of San Fransisco and crossed the Golden Gate… saw the leggy young things on Hollywood Blvd and stood on the Sidewalk Of The Stars and said “God Bless You John Wayne”
I have been down the road with with Ron and Dorothy, and Richard, and Floyd, and Doyle, and Les, and Mary and Paul and Betty and Ray and Barbara and Carlos and a hundred more. Sometimes were better than others, but there was never a bad time.
I have caused many family feuds and near divorces.
I have also caused much happiness….
And when you stop and think about it…isn't that what life should be about?…Happiness?

Digger, I hope you've reported this to the cops.
I realize chances are slim, but maybe when the thieves discover no cash and a bunch of important documents, they might abandon it someplace it might be discovered and turned in.

I know it doesnt sound that bad to some but just think of the problems you would have if you suddenly lost the following documents… Original birth certificate Passport Drivers license Medicare card Supplemental insurance card Car title Car insurance card Social security card Military service release? For when he finished his service All credit cards Debit card Your will Your checkbook (Thats not counting his Power of Attorney papers, Nursing home contract papers, medicare papers,medical power of attorney papers, gaurdianship papers) You could no longer even prove who you are. You cant go to an atm to get money. You cant go to the bank and withdraw money or do banking stuff cause you have no proof of who you are. Its just devestating. Being as he is now in dementia i can no longer get these documents replaced. Even I dont know what future problems this is going to cause |
