It is interesting.  My ST1300 has an attraction for rodents.

My goldwing sort o this one.  Last time I cleaned the air cleaner on the wing it showed signs of being used by a rodent.

I have placed mouse traps around the fronts of my bikes to trap rodents.

When my ST was in the shop for repairs from a hit with the deer, the dealer left it sort of "outside" while waiting for parts.  He had to replace most of the wiring.  Seems the insulation is just what rodents like.

ST and wing owners routinely put filters over the air intakes.

I have yet to see the same thing when changing the filter on the Valkyrie.   But....   I have slept since then.

Okay, I'm an idiot (I know, many of ya'll had already surmised as much).

Now that we're back home from Hattiesburg, and I'm oncall for work so can't ride anywhere anyway I tore back into the Gold Wing to start tracing down the wires to see if I could find where Scratchy had nibbled a wire.

First thing's first, figure I'll replace the relay again JUST to be absolutely positive.

Yup, I'd replaced the WRONG relay the last time! (In my defense there are a LOT of relays in there!)

Replaced the RIGHT relay and voila! Turn signals working properly now!

Woot!

So the guy at the shop called me up to tell me the Gold Wing would be ready this afternoon.

And.... asked if I knew about the peanuts.

*Blink*Blink*

That's not usually the kind of query one gets from the motorcycle shop that's been tasked with changing your air filter.

I told him Er, no? And I just bought the bike a month ago.

So evidently it's a very good thing I elected to go ahead and replace the air filter. This is what they took out:

So theory is some critter was nesting in there. (Which also could be the source of my weird turn signal issue, since replacing the turn signal control cluster and the turn signal relay didn't fix it, I might dig deeper into it some day and see what I can find.)

They make screens that that go over the intakes under each glove box. Be wise to do it since you know the filter is clean. I got lucky and had no nest on my filter. I snaked a camera in to look at it before adding the intake screens.

I finally got bored and brave enough to do the last upgrade on my list, replace the high beam bulbs with LED.

Replacing the high beam bulbs on a GL1800 is one of those "In theory, simple; in reality, good luck" jobs. Took 2 days, both my hands look like I've lost a battle with an overly playful kitten, but it's done... The Gold Wing is 100% LED now.....

Also, my Interstate has been sold. Was sad to see her go, but between my Valkyrie Standard and the Gold Wing, there wasn't a good use case scenario for the Interstate, so...

Beyond Winnebike-o and Geezer Glide, I heard a new term for Gold Wing's I'm rather fond of - Couch Rocket.

SO looking forward to next month and my Inzane and beyond trip... Woot!

I think the Gl1000's and 1100's were considered a "cool" bike back in the day, and even the 1200's to a certain extent because there was still a lot of "motorcycle" left to see (unless of course they became overly dressed with the plethora of not so bad to downright gaudy accessories people plastered on to them. In my mind at least, when Goldwings really earned their reputation as Winnebike-o's, Geezer Glides, Couches on Wheels, etc was during their mid to late 1500 tenure...when the seats and windshields got HUGE and the body panels covered everything that dared to show it was a  "motorcycle" from front to back. They were still a great bike, but their "couch" reputation became cemented in that era. The 1800's with their more performance frame and streamlined looks brought them back to being considered "more cool" to ride again, with a lot of younger riders going for them.
You've got the best of both worlds now...the old 1500 for straight out coolness and nostalgia, and the 1800 Wing for performance, comfort, and looks too cooldude
