To have a beer with a friend ?

Had the great fortune and opportunity to have a beer with a friend. A very good friend ! The plan was to spend a couple hours in a bar, and shoot the breeze. As they say “the best laid plans of mice and men”. When I got there and checked in to the hotel, they put me clear in the back away from all the humans. After telling stories waiting for the bar to open at 4, we discover it’s closed on Mondays. I was beginning to wonder if the news of my incessant snoring and boisterous drinking had made its way to New Mexico ?
Nevertheless alternate plans were made and they worked out just spectacularly! Although I think I might have concerned my friend when I came strolling out of the store with a 12 pack.  Wink I had a GREAT time, and it was much needed. Riding has been pretty sporadic for me these last couple years. It was good to get out for one. It was even better with the company. Most of the miles were boring Interstate, but I managed to squeeze in a few 2 lanes in on the way back.

How far WOULD I go is a very different number than how far CAN I go, given job, kids, wife, responsibilities..... I so wish I could have taken him up on his offer when he was in the southern tip of Texas but alas.....

Isn’t it great when a plan comes together?  Well done you two. Drink one for me.

You bet he did! In fact, he was shaking his head, grinning from ear to ear, and just plain marveling at the wonderful surprise of such an amazing friend riding nearly 600 miles one way just to say howdy and sip a couple of cool ones together!!! He had a fabulous time, but who'd a thought...?

I'd thought hard about contacting Rob when I wound-up in Arizona... Heck, I even landed in the same motel we'd used on my last visit when he and Brayden had joined me for a ride. Alas, I wasn't going to be there long (only one night it turned out) because of other looming issues, but largely due to some ugly weather heading towards me.

I did post something about being out there, however, and that's when I got a text from my good friend. Next thing I knew, he was on his way!!! Holy cow! I'm still shaking my head in disbelief, but seeing this post confirms I didn't dream it all.

I could spend untold days and megabytes trying to capture all the good things that have come my way since hooking up with our girl. Among the absolute best things, though, has been the quality friendships that have come our way... so totally unexpectedly!

Politics separates many of us and causes us to miss really getting to know some truly fine people. Rob and I are different in some ways, but I've seen a quality guy with a sincere heart and a level head, plus a vast and rich life's history. I love this guy like a brother and having him make such a ride has clearly been the highlight of this coddiewomple!!! Yes indeed, his friend had a most large time!!!

It was a blast. Thanks for interrupting your Coddiewomple and waiting a day. I tend to contemplate things as I’m riding thru vast open deserts. As I was riding back yesterday I thought of how we make pretty good philosophers after we’ve got a couple beers in us.  Grin (I’m not sure how well that “pinko commie” shirt is going to go over here)  Smiley

I think the pink goes well with the black pants and the Santa beard.

Sounds like a fine time...

HA! Looked at the first picture and said to myself...."I know who's bike that is!" Second picture......"yup, I knew it!"
Wandering alone is alright but seeing a good friend along the way makes it all the more worth while.  cooldude

Rob,

You're forgiven for the pinko commie shirt. Besides, what others don't know is that you redeemed yourself the next morning when you came down for breakfast wearing a Ukraine shirt! Yes, it is amazing how we can become so philosophical following a brew or two! Thanks for inspiring me to cross another threshold following all my prostate doings... I'm really looking forward to our next time!!!

Rob,

You're definitely on that list! Alas, it has become a rather lengthy list over the years... Even Sweet Cheeks on there, too!

John,

Our girl and I are headed back to Florida... I want to visit my daughter for a couple of days, then I have yet another doctor appointment on the 22nd. After that, back to Florida where I'll visit my BIL, then ride with him up to Hattiesburg... Looking forward to seeing you again, BTW!

This has been another amazing wander with loads of pleasant surprises, lots of great riding, frequent interactions with certifiable characters, and of course, daily encounters with fine folks. The cherry on top of the whipped cream, however, was that chance meeting with Rob in Deming, NM... Have I ever mentioned that I just love my life?!!!

lol...I'm almost positive that envisioning you as the now defunct "Meathead" will prove to have been a lot easier than envisioning you as an emperor with "no clothes" ick ick

Great post here though, TEHNC is off to a good start cooldude

Rob, you got that "where's my glasses?" look happening. Smiley
