Saw that a couple days ago, the guy's an idiot. The gate was already down and he went around it. He deserves whatever comes his way for this. In another picture apparently the trailer kept the bike from going for a swim.

The universal (lame) excuse for losing control and falling down. 

Science proves that brakes stop a bike (much) faster than sliding along the pavement on it's side.

However, I did have occasion to run off the road and into the weeds to avoid a car coming at me head on.

Laying it down would only have made me easier to run over.

The bridge surface is metal grate and in the rain the fool was going much too fast for conditions.
