I guess its time to go back to work. I have been without a job 10 months now. I thought  maybe I could retire but I have found out that I still like to spend money.I really enjoyed spring fling and ridding with DDT. We enjoy just wandering around. I really could get use to that life  but my budget dont seem to like it just yet. So that means you will see me  as much as I can. Please keep an eye on our Legend (DDT)

HALF? Crap, when I retired from all of my jobs at the same time in December of 2020, I went from around $125,000 per year to around $30,000. Almost a $2000 per week cut!!!  uglystupid2   It was WELL worth it. I retired debt free.  coolsmiley

Some of us just can not stop trying to help people in need.   It is like a calling for me
Tomorrow I have NINE L/T cases  (8 virtual and 1 in person) plus a few clients dropping in.

For that reason I am probably still 3 yrs out from retirement

But I am taking longer vacations   21 days in June and at least 4 more one week vacations this year and 3 weeks in Naples over the winter

If I had my way I would cut to 2 days a week   kind of what Johnny Carson did    cooldude  Then I would have 5 weekend days a week

Congrats on retirement Valker & Smokinjoe   Enjoy life after work for as long as you can

HTJ,

I really enjoyed our two weeks together on the road, as well! It was great fun for me to introduce you to the coddiewomple, and you did seem to take to it very well and quite easily! I admire your self-discipline and devotion to duty. Only you and Pam know exactly where you are and what you should do... Your judgement from what I've seen since you were a pre-teenager has always struck me as thoughtful and sound, so just follow your own instincts and I'm sure things will work out.

You'll be missed on my rides, but I'm confident we'll still be able to do some now and then.  You are a great travel companion, my friend, so as far as I'm concerned, you can ride with me any old time!!!

Hot Tub Johnny,
Thanks for coming to Spring Fling, enjoyed meeting you and hope to share some wind with you in the future.

Now, I really hate to do this on a public forum but, I just have to say that we (I) don't think using vulgar language is appropriate here.   You do realize that "W" word is something that just shouldn't be said dontcha?  Wink   There is one other word I find offensive, many of our northern friends bring it up from time to time during the colder months, it starts with "S".   Don't even like thinking about either of those two words.   2funny

Best wishes in whatever you decide to do.

yah,  both my wife and me, only age 52,  have been past 1 year or more been dreaming of retirement. Still way too young, but sure sounds wonderful with the way working conditions/jobs are nowadays for both of us.

Sounds like in next 1-2 years my wife may loose her job after being there 32 years since 1990 right outta college moving on up the corporate ladder to as  high as she ever wants to go, due to computers and software implementations coming that will more than half eliminate her daily job duties or moving the corporate headquarters to St. Louis MO where we both will never move to even though she is the much larger bread winner between us to.

We both live a simple life and could easily live off on 50K combined income per year, but to NOT have a job at all would be difficult since not old enough to retire unfortunately.

Sometimes how we live on retirement income can be a challenge but no one on his deathbed says, "I wish I had spent more time at the office."

Aah, the "real" world always beckons us back with its burdens.  Damn that real world!

Sounds like you got in a good mini-womple with the legend.  Better than a stick in the eye!  Most of us work in a good seasonal ride or two after much planning and fretting about the expenses, route choice and  available "free" time.

When looking at my bankroll I've often wondered how Bruce is able to financially swing his incessant  coddiewompling addiction.  I've come to the conclusion that life ain't cheap, whether you're hopelessly tethered to the material grind or literally blowing in the wind...

Experiences count.  Bruce has racked up more than most, and I have great respect and admiration for his ability and choice to live the dream that eludes many of us.

After about a week of motel rentals and restaurant dining I'm usually tapped out, financially and physically.

RAMS, I hear ya about those four letter words.  More "s" forecast here this week, and icy cold winds to boot. Still building fires in the wood burner.  I'm hoping it'll be warm enough in the garage to start tearing apart the Silver Bullet again soon.  Poor old gal is down with a mysterious ailment, and I'm no master troubleshooter.  Gonna try another petcock and some fresh go juice, with my fingers crossed it's not gummed up carbs.  I'm not touching those, I know my limits.

I agree with Willow on this one.  My salary dropped 50% or more too.  You just have to make adjustments.  But if you have purchases that exceed your budget in your future and you are still willing to sacrifice your time then I say go for it.  It has been 10 years this December since I retired after working 45 years and I don't regret it other than sometimes my wants exceed the budget a bit.
