If you're still happy, I'm happy for ya.
If not, sorry, can't help with that.  Wink

Wasn't long ago I bought what I thought was a truck priced way too high but, I needed and wanted another and it was exactly what I would have ordered.   Now, with the price of diesel, I'm wondering why in the hell I thought I needed it so much.   It is, what it is.  Wink

Not to muddy the op’s point too much, but we are all rich in our own ways. Some we all share, like waking up in the morning with all the possibilities that offers. We are rich with family and friends that give us purpose and meaning a chance to pass on a part of ourselves. Leaving money out of the equation we are a very rich bunch of mostly old guys and a few sweet gals.

Same here,  5 months ago bought probably my LAST NEW 1/2 ton truck 43K msrp.  5 years ago msrp same identical truck was 38K, so about every year pricing goes up 1 grand which is NUTS.  I bet not too many of us get a 1000K raise in salary per year and that 43K is more than my yearly salary as well.   I looked at the new 2022 trucks and now they are WAY up to near 50K msrp for how I want it equipped no leather just a mid-level cloth seat truck.  NO thanks,  this will be my last new truck purchased anything much over 40K msrp is not worth it to me.

Sooner rather than later,  NO ONE will be able to afford new vehicle pricing.  Electric vehicles are all in that 50K on up range as well, still way too high priced for the average consumer to afford.

...... I bet not too many of us get a 1000K raise in salary per year

Our auto manufacturers have become benefit houses.  Built into the price of every car are benefits for at least 3 generations.  As folks are living longer, there are now 2 generations of retirees that are getting pensions and healthcare.

This is also happening in many major cities across the nation.  Teachers and cops and firefighters etc retire after 20 years and get pensions and healthcare forever.  Some local gov't employees are drawing two pensions.

#humblebrag

So, the idea of owning a Vette isn't what makes you happy, but people being in awe of your $100,000 spending spree is what you are seeking?

Color me unimpressed by someone bragging about paying a nearly $2000 a month car payment.

Had the honor of meeting the famous Ed Foss (the low mileage Corvette king of the USA) before his passing, and he was far more humble.  His wife had invited some of us (her coworkers) to his personal museum for a dinner. This museum in Fort Wayne had about 20 Vettes in it (most with less than 10,000 miles and some with less than 1,000), and that was what was left after he sold about 20 before I met him.
One example was donated to the Corvette Museum, appraised value at donation: $1 mil.

Long story short, it takes a lot more to impress me than someone who can brag about a $2,000 car payment.

hey,  I be bragging as well if I could deal with a 2K car payment, let alone a 2K house payment, neither of which I will ever have in my life.

I'm just not the bragging type.  Unless I beat my brothers in some sort of shooting match!
I certainly don't purchase things to impress other people.  I worked with a guy who had to tell every other co-worker and driver he had a $250,000 house (in a region where the avg is $145,000) and bought his wife a $10,000 wedding ring.  His income was basically the same as mine.  My house is a 900 square foot 50's era cracker box pre-fab, sitting in a lower middle class neighborhood.  But, it's paid off.  Financial security is far more important to me than trying to impress people (or being upset that I didn't!).
I played the eyeball-deep-in-debt game once, I won't do it again.  I refuse to take out a loan that is for more than I have in liquid assets.  Or to take out a loan for something where I will be upside down on the loan right from the start.  I'm buying a new truck in a month or so, and I will be putting half down in cash.  If something unexpected happens, I can sell it for more than I owe, as it's not likely to lose even 50% of it's value in 5 years.

If I feel the need for attention, I just have to ride my Valkyrie to a restaurant.

I was hounded every few days by dealerships to buy my 2018 Dodge Dually Cummins. So one day I drove buy a Ford dealer on my Valk and seen a real nice Superduty F250 Lariat Blacked out edition.

Pulled in and they told me they would give me $55K for my Dually on a trade? I wanted to get away from the diesel and all the issues that come along with them.

So I went home and drove back up and purchased the 2021 Superduty with the 7.3 Godzilla Gasser. I am very happy to be back in a gasser, it takes 87 octane and runs like a rapped ape!! Grin

I paid sticker which was $64K but they did give me top dollar for the dually. These are crazy times, I paid 40K for my first house in 1981  uglystupid2

I think the new Vett is a great car and if he can afford the payment leave him alone.
Plus if he decides he doesn’t want the car any more he can sell it for $25,000 over sticker.
Enjoy that great new car..

being 65 and have never had a 2 week vacation in 40 years..and a long time patient came in also at 65  recently who had had a bad stroke wiping out his left side...my dad actually raced Corvettes and in 1958 actually beat the world as ROAD AMERICA-Elkhart  Lake Wisconsin had their inaugral 500 mile race..it was an International event with Phil Hill who  was World Champion a few years earlier came, the Factory Briggs  Cunningham Jaguar team came and  my dad got the pole position!!..the track has several long  straightaway so it favored the larger displacement Corvette..of course he had drum brakes and in 3 laps had no brakes and probably never even finished the race...we had 1969 Corvette 427 convertible-and a Delta 88 police car at the same time-special order, then '76 and a  '77 vettes and then a 1978 Trans Am-I was in college at  Kansas State-a  smaller college in the icebox of northern central Iowa but I was pretty popular in that ride when dad would let me have occasional for a week or two--of course my daily driver was 1965 Lincoln with the suicide doors-when I went back home to the parents in K.C. it matched the description of every local crime so contraband was not allowed at anytime..also my dad   had a deTomaso  Mangusta when I was in high school...ALL the girls wanted a ride in that one-of course I spun the thing when a had the hottest girl in my class in it-nailed a light reflector pole  and a big time dent in the rt quarter panel :')-of course  my daily driver was a Ford Cortina that required all my TLC just to get it to school and back.. years forward to my '84 Corvette-I would always top it out going against traffic on the loop around town going to work until someone complained  and they actually had a several car  set up for me but a fortunate moving roadblock saved me...my 2003 ZO6 'Vette  has many stories to tell..with the cams and headers it some 400# lighter than the new ride....that one is phenomenal..it looks like a Mclaren..some Artic white exterior and red interior and black accents outside including the black high spoiler..it rides extremely well  and the performance is world class..maybe I'll get buried in it .....hopefully many years from now--you can't be sure of a minute so waste  not an hour right?  Wait..I have stories on the Honda 50 and 100,Bridgestone 90 and 100,Kawasaki 350 triple,Suzuki GS 1150ES...and so much more cooldude

$65 a day for 5 years and it's mine Evil

After reading this again, that last sentence hit me pretty hard.   My Ram 3500 Cummins powered wasn't quite that expensive.   Glad it wasn't cause it would still be sitting on the lot or in someone else's garage.

BTW, it's paid off.  Wink   But, as I previously said, if you're happy, I'm happy for you.

the remarkable ease of whatever speed you desire (up to 195 mph) is impressive in supreme comfort...the sub 3 second sprints 60 are accomplished with little wheelspin..the brakes are superlative.. a show stopper everywhere but it goes so effortlessly it is too easy-the limits are so high that a race track is needed to really have fun with it..conversely trying to push the Valk is more rewarding at less traveled  road speeds--the wife is getting a 1 level cervical fusion and artificial disc replacements at the levels above and below in the next month so hopefully she can travel again-the last 3 years have been very  busy at work so some R&R is well deserved-I haven't had a new car in 19 years..!

If you think money makes you rich you have been fooled.  Wink
you got to do what makes you happy

Here is something I try to live by

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
and the world makes you king for a day
just go to the mirror and look at yourself
and see what THAT face has to say
for it isn't your Father or Mother or Spouse
Whose judgement upon you must pass
The person whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass
Some people might think you are a straight shooting chum
and call you a great gal or guy
but the face in the glass says you are only a bum
if you can't look it straight in the eye
That's the one you must please, never mind all the rest
That's the one with you clear to the end
And you know you have passed your most dangerous test
If the face in the glass is your friend
You may fool the whole world in your pathway of years
and get pats on your back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
if you've cheated the face in the glass.

Bought a 2010 GMC 4.8 V8 with 39,000 mi. in 2017 for $24,000 2 years later GM rust monster came out of hiding. Got it back from restore in May with another $11,500 invested in rust repair and only 94,000 mi. on it. Of all the vehicles I've owned over the years this is best road trip ride I've ever owned. New low rent 2022, $48,000 with a the 5.3 V8.
