I'm going to desmog my 99 I/S using RedEye shiny desmog kit.
Since it's a CA model with the cannister my question is.....

Is there anything different that needs to be done while desmoging
Since it is the CA model?

Scroll down to the paragraph in red about the six hoses on the California models, Mine would not run unplugged.

I read that after I had removed them,. I did reinstall them and plugged the end
Something is still not right started it but it won't idle.  I have another crack at it tomorrow and figure it out.

A couple of things I remember about desmoging my 99 Interstate Cali bike.
1) The vent line from the tank on a cali bike does not have the "T" in the line.
2) The vent lines from both banks of carbs need to be vented, either with a "T" and a small section on hose or like the 49 state model with the hoses that fit into the rear cross brace.
3) Cap all those lines from each carb, I believe there is one per carb with the exception of #3 has two.
4) May have to adjust the pilot jets, I believe the cali carbs are adjusted a little different.

Spot on. The cannister mount could be used to attach a vacuum reservoir for a cruise control.

My eventual solution for my CA-model '99 Tourer is to swap the carb assembly for a 49-state one next time I have the bike torn down that far.

One thing I'm probably going to leave as-is: The cams. This Tourer gets 42-45MPG at 70MPH with them when ridden at highway speeds. I really don't notice a difference in power between my 49-state I/S and that bike.

After just a little frustration with the desmog on the CA model I finally got it done.
I can't believe how much smog control crap came off has to weigh at least 10 pounds!
Anyway she is all put back together and running great.
I appreciate all the info given... it really. Helped me.
