Author Topic: Turn signal Indicator not Flashing  (Read 2009 times)

Installed LED’s in front and back and understood there would be hyperflashing. Each side worked properly but just flashed fast. I installed a LED flasher I bought on Amazon. Installed flasher tonight and the flash rate went back to normal. However, now the turn signal indicator does not work. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix that part? Thanks

if the turn signal indicator light was working, you would have 4-way flashing where all 4 signals blink simultaneously. It's another quirk from installing leds on all 4 signals (hyper flashing + 4-way flashing).

Thanks. Guess I’ll just live with it and try and not forget to turn my blinkers off. Thanks

Standard and tourer models need to have a diode added to the indicator light. Easy to do. Interstate doesn’t and should work as normal.

Add a diode for each wire going to the indicator light or:

LJVALKYRIE, all it takes is splicing in the *metric diode kit* to the indicator socket's wires. Similar to splicing in an inline fuse to a wire for example. That said, the indicator socket wires are thin gauge wires which you might find troublesome. Basically, you find the 2 indicator socket's wires and snip them. Then solder/crimp the snipped ends to the respective diode wires.

The indicator has 2 wires, one for its +12 but the second wire doesn't go directly to Ground like you usually assume. 4-way flashing happens because the indicator light's electricity travels through the non-activated turn signals to find Ground (black arrows, below). With incandescent bulbs, the remaining current is too weak to light up the non-activated turn signals. Since leds bulbs have low resistance, it allows a stronger current to flow through the same wires. The stronger current is high enough to light up the non-activated side turn signals and now you have both sides turn signals flashing. Now, the metric diode kit does join the Left and Right turn signals wires together since there is only one +12 input wire at the indicator socket as such the input wire must be shared by both, but resident diodes prevent crossfeed at the Y junction. Incandescent bulbs circuit below.

Thank You for sending me this. Extremely helpful!

Somebody taught me this. Just passing it on. Btw, bikes with separate indicator lights for the Right signals and the Left signals don't have the 4-way flashing issue after installing leds. 2 idiot lights, that is.

I just did this mod. Installed the diode kit, 4 LED turn signals where the fronts are also white running lights, and an LED flasher. You do not have to replace the turn signal indicator with LED if you don't want to.

I have LED's replacing all lights on Jade (97 Tour).  Expected the 4-way error so prevented it. Installed a digital flasher unit in the process which prevented the hyperflash.  Replaced the indicator bulb with 2 red bright LED's stuffed in the socket, one for ea circuit - resistors not needed as they are in series with the signals. Much brighter and red in color, much more noticeable than the OEM incandescent bulb.  I have these LED's in my kit already for some of my products - e.g. the Highlighter (now out of production). This soln fixes the 4-way problem as well as the dim flash indicator problem - and it's pretty easy if you have any electrical skill - soldering and so on.
