So, new bad sound coming from transmission/alternator area.  Above 30mph, in any gear, when I slightly roll off the throttle, it sounds like marbles rattling around. I've just changed the oil to mobile 1 15w40. I know straight gears are a little louder, and she's fairly high mileage, but this is new. Any ideas ladies and gentlemen?

Once the nut on the alternator drive hub came loose. It sounded much like you are describing.

Could this be the buzz bolt?  (I had it on one Valk)

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/buzz.htm

It is not where he's pointing, it's a bolt through a long sleeve inside the frame (at his knuckle).  The nut gets loose enough, it lets the sleeve inside the frame rattle or buzz (mine rattled).  Usually on throttle, not on coast, and may or may not have onset at a certain RPM and above.  It's really the sleeve rattling, not the bolt.  It drove me crazy.

I had to really crank on it hard, hard enough I thought I might break the nut/bolt (it squealed).  I think I actually had to pull/bend the frame members it runs through together a bit to capture the sleeve.  It's tool steel and didn't break.

It's harder on the interstate, because the bolt is inside the right pod.   Accessible through the side vent, with a ratchet, extension and Ujoint (and if you slip, you can break the pod easily).  Or take it off.  Working alone, you can't reach to hold a tool on both sides, but I was able to tighten down from the right only, the bolt didn't turn.

Some pulled it apart and squirted the sleeve full of RTV sealant and reassembled.

The Shoptalk says some drilled/tapped a hole in the sleeve for a set screw.  I never heard of anyone who did that, though it would work.

The origin of Valk sounds is often not where you suspect.

splines in the driveline? Worn, damaged, lack of lube? If you are due for a rear end service it may show up in this area

first thing i thought of was that buzz bolt. i cranked on it pretty good, but ill give it another shot. it was also suggested on FB that it could be the alternator bearings. Since those are the easy ones, ill try them first. I just(5000 miles ago) did a rear wheel service, but i guess that won't hurt to check again anyway. I guess I'm just worried about it being the trans. I know they are tough, but all machines break.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea to check the ujoint also.

15w-40 Mobil 1, isn't it a diesel oil? If so diesel oil had EPA changes in 2017 thus my bike didn't like the new formula Rotella T6. Louder shifting, not as smooth shifting, and definitely a tad more noise.

Does it change in intensity when you pull the clutch in?

What about clutch feel?

The clutch feels fine, maybe a little touchy, and yes it does change if I squeeze the clutch
