In Kentucky! In the 90’s yesterday and today. Got out in it yesterday just to run some errands and I remembered the days now long gone when I rode without a helmet. Yesterday in the evening, after 6pm would have been comfortable to be out but I missed out on that window as I had to do my walking exercise that I try to do everyday.

I have never owned any specialized clothing for hot weather riding but I’m thinking I may need to consider that this go around. I’ve been doing a little reading on what others do/use but you can get conflicting info too. I’ll take any suggestions any of you may have to maintaining some semblance of cool while riding in the heat.

Mesh jacket. If it’s really hot a water soaked sweatshirt under the jacket.

If you want protection for hot weather, mesh jackets are the thing.

Now they often come with one and sometimes two liners (cold/wind and/or waterproof), but IMHO you don't want either liner (or to pay for them), and you want pure mesh as opposed to just some mesh.  Many partial mesh jackets are solid over the shoulders and arm tops, right where you want good cooling.

I assume you carry rain gear so see no need for extra liners for a pure mesh jacket.

Next is color, and the lighter the better (though 85% of them are pure or mostly black, which just absorbs heat).  The other issue (for me) is that so many mesh have outlandish designs or brand logo stuff (just like so many full face helmets) and I don't like that either.

And most mesh jackets come full of armor and if you want the protection leave it in, but I take most of mine out (of internal pockets) so I don't look and feel like a football player, and of course this lets even more air flow through the jacket.

Look for closeouts from websellers, and it can be worth your time riding around to a few bike shops (metric dealers or aftermarket gear sellers).

My (ice cream man) pure white mesh was marked down to under a third of MSRP at a local metric dealer showroom. (First Gear or Joe rocket, can't remember).  Pure mesh with no liners.

Also check here.  https://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/jackets_and_pants___mesh_/

I wear loose hi tech sweat wicking T shirts under the mesh.

Also, baggy/loose jeans up on the HWY pegs fill up with air and get rid of heat, but you still have jeans protection.  Lightweight cotton pants are cooler, but the bottoms won't stay open on the hwy pegs like loose jeans will.  And the cotton pants aren't much protection.

I still wear good gloves and boots as my hands and feet don't get hot.

A wet bandana around the neck is very cooling, though they don't stay wet for long.  I'm not a fan of skullcaps or do-rags of any kind, but they can be soaked down too.

Finally, after riding around my area for 30 years, I have some pretty good shady rides scouted out where a good part of the ride is under trees.

I bunged up a knee a couple weeks ago and have stayed off the heavy fatgirl weaning it back to almost healthy.  I was going to go for the first time today, but 90s is too much for me.  I didn't get up early enough.

No I don't have any ice cream for sale!!  Angry   (and white is HI VIZ)

What Jess said above, although I only partially follow his guidelines.  My mesh jacket is probably 15 years old and is a "Honda" product (of course made by someone else).

The other thing about mesh, maybe the main thing, is the idea of wearing a wet long sleeve T or even sweatshirt under it, for a swamp cooler effect while riding with wind flow.

I tried this multiple times and could never make it work.  The wet ran down and gave me swamp crotch (which was the only thing that never dried out), and it was just too much damp (and later hot and damp) insulation.

I think this may work in super dry places like out west, but in eastern humidity it sucked big time.  That's my experience anyway.

There was a company called DragginJeans that sold kevlar shirts and jeans with kevlar in the "strategic" spots.  I have the shirt still, not wear it much and the jeans have long since gone.

Just another option.

I must admit, while I have a mesh jacket and a leather jacket, there are time when I wear neither.

I am not an ATGATT kind of person.

The one except is my boots.  They are SIDI boots and I would have no others.  Comfortable and water resistant (well now water gets in from walk or riding in the rain.).  I am on my second set of soles and that is the hard part since the ones I have are no longer marketed by SIDI.  And I just checked and the US can no longer order from them.

I am an ATGATT poster boy in the cold.

Not in the hot.  I cover up in hot weather because I have serious white man's skin cancer problems.  So long sleeve Ts.  I only wear my mesh on trips.  And sunblock.

Florida gets hot!
If I am riding any distance at all in 90-95+ weather it is in a mesh jacket and usually an evaporative cooing vest underneath. The vest will last around 45 minutes to an hour depending on conditions and speed. Feels like cold air conditioning for your core.
There are several different kinds of vests but for a long day the evaporative is the only kind that takes a hose or a big glass of water to make work again.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I do have a mesh jacket that’s probably 15 years old but only recently have been able to fit into it. It has armor and I think, I hope a removable liner. I’ll have to check it out a little closer. I wore leather chaps both coming and going from Hattiesburg and they were useful in that early April weather. Would like to get some air circulation on the lower extremities too.

My experience with mesh pants in hot weather was not good.  Moving along was OK, but slow riding and stopped, the engine heat feels like you are wearing no pants.  And just like the jackets, most are black.

No use in cold weather.

Loose jeans on the hwy pegs is the solution.  They blow up like balloons.  And block engine heat.
