A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.

Thomas Jefferson

I guess this principal negates the Obama Plan to spread the wealth. cooldude

The people have spoken yet again against this Socialist Policy that the present administration has pursued.

I may be able to buy that fourth Motorcycle now. Looking for a Interstate Thank You.

Great idea, keep the pressure up, until November when the pink slips get handed out. Two weeks ago, we were just starting to think there might be a chance, and it happened. They wrapped Scott Brown up in the Tea Party, in Sarah Palin, in the Republican Party, brought Obama in to poke fun at his truck, and just plain lied about some things.  Guess the majority here don't have a problem with those associations after all. For those of you who supported Scott Brown financially, I know it made a difference. Thank you, it's our country.

Let's hope the other Dems finally take notice and will not vote for the health insurance plan in the next couple of weeks.  They're talking about how they might try to get the plan through, even though it's the one that they didn't want, just to get it done before the Repubs have the means to stop it.  How arrogant can Obama and Pelosi be????   tickedoff

Very well said Karen...and CONGRATULATIONS Massachusetts!!

As far as sending financial support to Scott Browns campaign, that was simple compared to the job you folks in Massachusetts had in bringing down a legacy of demagoguery from the Kennedy's.  I respectfully say that your work (and our work) is not nearly complete in Massachusetts until John "Never saw a rich heiress he didn't like" Kerry and Barney "Gerbil up his ass" Frank are gone.

Payback is Hell although I don't think that most Dems will get it and Obama certainly won't.  They're too arrogant.

Keep up the pressure and then throw them out in November.

I can't beleive for the life of me how quickly people forget. It has been 8 years of headed down this road. Our county's problems didn't happen overnight,  Jan. 1st 2009. We went to war long before that, gas prices have been killing everyone, unemployement has been out of control for years now, and don't even get started on health care. I haven't seen anything brought to the table yet that is going to give any releif to anyone but those that already have. I don't care whether they are democrat or rebublican if their mouth is moving it's most likely a lie.

If I remember correctly, it was a republican Norm Colman that was declared the winner in the Minnesota race with Al Franken.  Coleman won by several thousand votes, until Franken cried for the votes to be recounted enough times to declare himself the winner!

I wouldn’t call Brown the winner until he’s sworn in!

I will agree that if their mouth is moving it is a lie, we used to say the same about inmates in the prison. Republican or Dem, it really does not matter, they are out for what is best for them, and to he$$ with the working man. This mess started a long time ago and both parties have had the opportunity to help the working class and they do not.

Why is it that whenever a tax and spend guy tries to justify the enormous taxes we pay they always bring up highways an clean water... but they never bring up the "earned income" tax credit, or funding to Acorn, or any of the thousands of ways the federal government wastes my money?

I understand we have a need to fund our national infrastructure, I don't understand $500 hammers, and federal welfare.

Smartest thing I have ever heard the Pres say: "Here's one thing I know and I just want to make sure that this is off the table: The Senate certainly shouldn't try to jam anything through until Scott Brown is seated," the president told ABC News. "The people in Massachusetts spoke. He's got to be part of that process."

"People are angry and they are frustrated. Not just because of what's happened in the last year or two years, but what's happened over the last eight years."  (hmmm, I KNOW the tired refrain of "the last 8 years" would come up sooner or later).

Well, he is right about one thing.... the last year has seen our share of scares and frustrations.  Especially when you consider that we were nearly forced to pay tax on the right of living..... (yes, forcing health care insurance on people and fining them if they don't have it is a tax on living, imho. It's not like car insurance which is mandatory for anyone exercising the privilege to drive.)

We at work are hopeing the HC bill does not pass. It would cut our $$ way down. Found out yesterday at our meeting that we made $3.1 million for our ambulance runs. $2 million was wrote off because of workmans comp, no pays, medicare, etc. A low end normal run costs $600. Medicade only gives us $103. Medicare is somewhat better but if they cut its funding it will be even lower.

'Thank you MA' is something I bet you never thought you would say!

Virginia and New Jersey fired the first volley in this revolution, and now Massachusetts has joined the fight.    Smiley  I look for many more shoots across their bow in the coming elections.    cooldude   And yes, I spelled the name of the state correctly even though I'm not the State's Attorney General  (who couldn't),,,,, !    crazy2   uglystupid2  And I'm not sure how much difference my $ contribution made, but it was meant as a statement of principle more than anything else.
Congratulations Karen of MA on your new senator elect.  I have a newfound appreciation for you guys.

Please read the thread over.  It was not written by a "tax and spend" guy.  It was written by a guy who understands there is too much taxing going on, but also realizes the extreme approach of "all taxes are bad" is damaging to the cause of fixing the problem.

IMHO, when that kind of crap is thrown out (and by crap I mean listing every possible tax when some are needed and some are not), the majority of the people dump it rather than take action to fix the real problem.  Try to be more specific in the future.  Which taxes would you like to see gone.  Be proactive and let your legislators know.  All you are doing here is whining when there is work to be done.

Your right alot of these are needed, So glad you chimed in, have you notice your roads lately? our roads are full of large potholes and have been for years, 2 funny you mention water? i refuse to drink off the tap here in Jamestown because of the smell of chlorine, http://projects.nytimes.com/toxic-waters/contaminants/ri/newport/ri1858419-jamestown-water-department But remember i trust that my TAX i Pay is going to keep me and YOU safe? hummm??? just sayin, Also as a Interior Contractor i have worked in Many Restaurants over the past 35 years, if you seen the filth in the cooking areas you would never take your family out to dinner again, Why? i don't  see the Health Inspectors ever anymore like i did in the 80's Where are they?? we need them but? i always look for the approval sticker at any place i go' kinda hard to find now, 3 How about that sticker that was on the Gas pump? You know the one that was always there from the day i started driving 37 years ago, Why because SOMEONE does not want US to see the LOCAL and FEDERAL TAX that is killing our gas price, You know it's just those EVIL OIL companies that push the Gas price up Yeh right!!. MY point The fat cats in DC with all of their Interns and special interest have derailed our public service, Ever notice the first thing they CUT is are Police staff and then School Teachers or health inspectors or Road repair?. NO ACCOUNTABILITY from our BIG Gov, lets make them start living like we do and maybe even though they are in 'Denial' by THE PEOPLE'S voice they heard this week, We know this historic event did some EGO breaking.       My take on this part of the discussion is that taxes AREN'T the the problem, SPENDING, is the tiger that must be tamed. Our Senate and House will spend money like it's water and worry about the bill later. My personal belief is that if we could eliminate 50 percent of the waste in government we could balance the budget and still supply all the services would should expect from a responsible federal government. As an example a 60 Minutes story on the border fence bring constructed between the US and Mexico is being equipped with cameras and radar at a cost in the billions and the director of the Boarder Patrol says the performance is marginal at best. But at the end of the day the contracts get paid, we have a system that sucks, and we will probably give the same contractor another contract worth billions to replace the crap they sold us the first time.

And I am very proud of the voter's of Massachusetts. The media over and over called it the race for Teddy Kennedy's seat as if he owned it. Which probably has some truth to it, but the voter of Ma. finally got to say it's our seat, and our job to decide who fills that seat.

This is a good article: http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2010/jan/21/editorials-another-tea-party-20100121/

'THOSE FOLKS in Massachusetts have a way of starting revolutions, and they’re still at it. The Spirit of ’76 seemed to morph into a new Spirit of ’10 Tuesday night as an obscure state senator up there prepared to become a U.S. one. And at least for 24 hours, the very emblem of American independence.
What was supposed to be slam dunk for the ruling party in the bluest of blue states turned out to be just a dunk. As for the other party, the grand old one whose funeral was being held only a few months ago, it was showing signs not only of life but of what John F. Kennedy used to call vig-ah.
The grand old party looked new again as a good-lookin’ boy full of pizzazz and vinegar stepped forward to upset the best laid plans of the most entrenched Democratic machine in the country-well, east of Chicago, anyway. Hey, what a surprising country.
The moral of this story: Never take the American voter for granted, especially if you’ve just tried to ram a grandiose “reform” down his throat with a little help from backroom deals and closed meetings. We the People are liable to rear up like a horse that’s not about to be ridden that way.
The unlikely winner in Massachusetts has more than politics in common with voters out here on the frontier. For one thing, he drives a truck with a couple of hundred thousand miles on it. For this election wasn’t about just one issue, even one as big and upsetting as health care. It was about the attitude of a party very much in power, and confident it could run over any signs of opposition from the mere people.
Americans don’t take to that kind of thing very well. They haven’t since at least 1773 and the first Boston tea party.
If the election results Tuesday don’t set the Democrats straight, well, nothing may. As the winner put it election night, if the Democrats are in trouble in Massachusetts of all places, they’re in trouble everywhere in America. As much as Nancy Pelosi, speaker and suddenly shaky boss of the House, might pretend otherwise. From East to West Coast, and certainly in the middle, the natives grow restless. Already have grown restless. Not just in Virginia. Not just in New Jersey. But now in Massachusetts, where folks aren’t just revolutionaries but have made a tradition of it. That cradle of liberty is still rocking away.
WHAT A campaign this Scott Bown waged. His name was scarcely known in his own state a year ago. Now every politico inthe country knows it. He did it not just by riding one issue-all the deficits and doubts raised by the Democrats’ health-care bill-but by appealing to something deeper. Call it the populist instinct in American politics. Or just a general resentment at being taken for granted. A short name for it is independence, and at such times Americans can’t resist showing it. Just to let the folks who’ve assumed they’re in control know they’re not. It happened again Tuesday night.
Result: A political campaign that began with a few volunteers in the snow ended with Air Force One making a sudden flight to Logan-to no avail. The voters in Massachusetts have clearly had enough, and they may not be alone.
Has the country got the Democrats’ attention yet? If this week’s election, and its precursors on the East Coast, aren’t enough to make the administration think again about government-run health care, and maybe a lot of other things, they’re asking for more of the same. That’s the message Massachusetts has delivered.
But did Barack Obama & Co. get it? And if he did, will he act on it and think again on the course that has just been so soundly repudiated by voters in the Bay State? There is something ice-cold at the center of this president. Even when he was leading his party to a great victory, he seemed to be controlling his party’s passions more than he was inspiring them. Has he grasped how deeply he has stirred the voters’ passions-and this time not in his favor? There is
still time for him to change. Will he? Other presidents have found themselves in political trouble in the middle of their terms, too. The successful ones have let the people know that their voice has been heard. Case in point: Bill Clinton responded to the historic Republican sweep of Congress two years into his presidency by letting the voters know he had got the message. He would go on to complete two terms in the White House.
In a way, this is what mid-term elections are for: to let the party in power know how it’s doing, and whether it needs to change course. In state after state now, the people have spoken. But will they be understood?'

Taxes are not the problem? we have the highest Corporate taxes in the world We have No jobs in America and jobs that our still here are heading out of the country to China to do business? I have first hand experience in my Liberal state stronghold on the ill effects of why TAXATION is the problem but why listen to me here is a CEO maybe he can shed some light on this? MAYBE some of you Don't need PRIVATE sector JOBS ???!!! of coarse this is the Apple cart that was supposed to pay for our government? click on the Video. BTW he was RIGHT back in 2008 AMAZING!! http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/local_news/jack_welch_talks_rhode_island

My point being, Why do you have those taxes? So our reps can spend, spend, spend. Taxation is not the only reason they are leaving, NAFTA pretty much has invited everyone to leave. But right now if you asked those who pushed it through they would defend the policies to the death. I don't believe we can control/restrain taxes until we bite the bullet on spending. I think we agree, just approaching from a different angle. The only people who have no problem with taxes are the people who can afford the attorneys and accountants that provide ways to keep them from having to pay any taxes.

Gov't spending and gov't exploitation needs to be corrected.

When I was locksmith, we did a lot of work for the US Marshal and local gov't.  My boss charged at least 50% more to the gov't than we would charge a "regular" customer.  The justification was that you have to wait in order to get paid from the gov't, while you get paid immediately from a private citizen or business.  I believe that this is a very common practice.

Exactly, and there is no incentive within government to control costs in any way. The more money we spend this year the more we ask for next year. Inflation and such don't ya know.

F6john i see what your sayin,  cooldude Spending is out of control, i guess right now i see so many people loosing their jobs and their homes, it is just hard to watch,i have also seen many Corporations just move to other states for less taxation, Most all here have, the problem is when they leave and give us the 'finger' Our local government looks at us the homeowners to pick up the slack from lost taxation, sucks man!!, Like Mich, Our population is decreasing and big brother starts looking harder at us for Tax increase. If you might guess what party is running our state ? Still with out a second thought less corporate tax in this country will stimulate jobs, You know the old saying for self employed is (the more you make the more they take) kinda loose motivation.

OOPS   Embarrassed   I'll second that fstsix ! !  Self employment tax damn sure dont stimulate free enterprise! Just makes it easier for the big fish to eat the lil fish. When all the corporations have bought each other out to the point that we have only 3 "corporations" left...who will have all the lobbyist ?  They will run this country, NOT US !

I say Give the corp. tax breaks and kill the lobby! !   tickedoff
