Caught this Fish on the San Saba River in Texas 4 days ago.....
42 1/2" and 39 lbs.  caught him on a floating drop line with a perch for bait....

we were at my sons ranch on the San Saba River at a party and we fed 30 people fried fish that night.   Next day playing on my phone I looked up the Texas State Record Flathead Catfish on the San Saba River and we had beat the record by 9 lbs......ha......we ate a record fish.

I probably would have ate the perch and missed out on some nice fried catfish.

Me and my buddy had 8 floating drop lines out and we rod fished for perch to bait with for 4 days evenings and mornings.   We saw one float go completely under for a while and knew we had a large fish.  Float came up down river a ways and we eased up to it in our kayaks and my buddy reached over and when he grabbed it it took off pulling him sideways in the kayak pretty fast.   I thought he was going to roll so I took off in my kayak and got the float between us and grabbed his kayak to stabilize us and then my buddy started trying to pull him up.   He got him to the top but couldnt get him high enough to get him in his kayak due to the weight so I grabbed the line too and we managed to flop him over in my kayak between my legs.   He must have been tired cause he really didnt flop around too much.  Then we headed in.  It was exciting.    I love to kayak fish.

We did that in 1967 or 68. I was stationed at Ft. Hood , Texas. Caught a crappy , weighed it , measured it , cooked and ate it . Next day found out it beat the state record by almost two inches.
