Bought a 2003 tourer. It has a tru-temp dipstick and it's too short. Id like to know the length of the rod and the tube the you screw the handle into Thanks

I have two Tel Tru temp sticks.  They are not too short to measure oil temps.  I check oil level with an OE dip though.

I think the Tel Tru does have a level, and it may be close (but I use the OE for level).

Id like to know the length of the rod and the tube the you screw the handle into

I don't understand this question.

The Tel Tru sits higher outside the dip hole with a spacer (than an OE dipstick), so it can be snugged up against theft (without a wrench).

The 2" gauge Tel Tru for Valkyrie:

Never use the gauge face to turn the dipstick, you will alter the temperature reading if you do.  It can be reset using boiling water (100 °C or 212 °F at 1 atmosphere of pressure; sea level).

I also have a Tru Tel 2” stick. the oil level is correct. At your next oil change, put in 4 quarts and check it. remember the bike has to be upright, not on the side stand.

I believe the manual calls for 3.9 quarts.

If you get all the oil out (engine hot, dip stick and oil fill cap and oil filter removed, after left to dripping, you get on the bike and lean it as far over right (over the catch pan) as you can for a minute, it takes 4 quarts.  I'll even bump the starter button once at the end (lawn and leaf bag under bike) (don't let it start).

I had an aftermarket Show Chrome dip that was not accurate so got in the habit of checking with OE dip sticks.

Just like I told my VTX buddy. We changed his oil. Put in the exact right amount. So I ask him how you are supposed to check it. He says I don’t know, does it matter. I reply nope doesn’t matter. Check it right now However you like and where the oil hits is correct. He did it on the side stand not screwing it in and the oil was like 1/8” on the stick. So I told him if that’s how you want to check it that’s where the oil should be. You can even scratch a new line on the stick if you want. Just for giggles I put the bike upright and checked it not screwed in and it was perfect on the line.

If you know the oil is right. Where it hits on the stick is irrelevant.

I check my oil every day before I ride. I look under the bike. No oil. It all must be still inside.

I recommend stationing a finger on the stop button in the event the engine starts running.

A harley guy who use to park in the next stall told me use 5 quarts for a 4 quart bike. Pour in the extra quart when the old oil is fully drained and tap the start button to drain the quart. I guess cheaper oil is okay for the extra quart. It's just to take out the residue.
