Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

Inevitable...

Even this simple student of the human condition knew that eventually there would come a day... It just had to be. Nobody can try so long to accomplish a relatively simple task without sooner or later getting it right. And so it was that on the morning of June 20, 2022, that glorious time arrived for this heretofore hapless seeker... I just hope it wasn't a fluke.

After countless frustrating years of often utter failure but never true achievement of the dream, a successful attempt at producing a downright good quality of biscuits and gravy finally happened! Not equal to the best work of my ‘gravy heroes’, of course, but much closer and still quite tasty! Much thought had gone into that. Recollecting all of the previous observations, trials and errors, and contemplating new ways of doing things… Surely this time…? Yep!

Recounting all of the tips and little tricks of the trade by many others, including the three icons of true mastery of that art, the right way of standing, holding one's body position/posture just so, correctly reciting all of the appropriate incantations and fervent appeals to ingredient deities, and timing all of those critical steps in just the precise sequence... it all came together in glorious triumph! I was mighty impressed and most pleased with myself, to be sure!

Not unlike many other accomplishments in life, it did indeed inspire other attempts at varieties of similar areas of exploration. Actually, this was not the stuff of mere happenstance. Nope, I'd been mulling over several up until now elusive stove related tasks during many skull sessions while cruising around our bountiful chunk of this planetary satellite of the nearest sun. For example, I've also prepared some really good baked beans during this interlude, too.

Of course, sitting out this current heat spell throughout the southeast had been the primary reason for renting this house in North Carolina for a couple of weeks. However, I was also eager to stand in front of a stove and try, try again! I did, and...

Well, it has been a joyous milestone period for this previously ‘starved’ for success bungler of food preparation... Not yet a chef by any means but approaching the status of a decent fledgling cook. Having come so far from just sandwiches or pizza delivery only, the future does indeed appear rather bright!

Following good results at the last urologist visit, the ride to this scene of some culinary successes had been even better than expected, had included a surprise or two, and had turned out to place us at our latest temporary home two days earlier than expected. Funny how loose, highly flexible, vague near plans can typically work out so much better than rigid itineraries. I am just so proud to be here! Time to go 'cook' some breakfast now...

I think I’ll experiment with some bacon in the oven again. Yep, I’ve even had good luck with that here already. I still need more practice with the flipping of fried eggs, but hey, nobody is perfect… Baby steps not quantum leaps, ya know…

Inevitable?   I'll have to take your word on that.   My experience would be, Two Steps Forward and One Step Back.   There may come a day but..............   As I've told others before, I can burn bacon with the best of them.   coolsmiley

Most excellent dude ! I’m proud of you  cooldude I’ve been a pretty good purveyor of biscuits and gravy for some time now, but I’ve never tried baked beans. I have though just recently taken back up using a Dutch oven over a campfire. (With very limited success)  Smiley

I have a good friend that loves to cook, for others, as much as anything. I enjoys his biscuits immensely but I’m usually on the clean up crew and boy can he make a mess. When a group of us would go to BikeWeek we would rent a house for the week and Steve would always be the breakfast cook, we were on our own the rest of the time.

Sounds like you're channeling your inner Julia Child!  You do strike me as one who perseveres. Congrats on finally whipping up some grub that your own discerning palate not only tolerates, but actually enjoys!

All,

Proud to be here! Even more proud of what for this inept cook has been nothing short of amazing success! I'm definitely on a roll, so... Nothing else to do but become mobile again before any let-downs can set in.  coolsmiley

I've been laying over avoiding heat for the most part in Yadkinville, NC... between Boone and Winston-Salem right off US 421 and a few miles east of I-77. For most of the last two weeks I've been getting that 'Forbidden 503' message and therefore unable to get on this board... I hadn't realized before just how much I look forward to visiting with y'all!!!

Time is almost up... I'll be departing early Wednesday morning (day after tomorrow), and making the gauntlet run through seriously hot and humid territory, so I'll wing it in terms of two or three days to get to Ocala. No idea how long I might be there, but... I'm going to have to get two tires and a rearend service before I can undertake anything major, so... We'll see how everything unfolds...

Thanks for all of your replies. It sure feels good to read those and to reconnect with my friends! I am on a roll of sorts with the good doctor report, great riding, and great place to hang out and just do what I do best... nothing at all!

That's a nice part of the country.  We used to live on old Yadkinville road near Pfafftown, west of Winston-Salem.  Always said it was like living at a roadside park.

So glad to hear that you are eating well and still enjoying life.

The west has been having some really nice weather this summer. Something you might want to file away in the back of your mind.

Missed you at Inzane, but I am hoping to make the FCR again this year. Hopefully I’ll see you there.

Take care my friend.
