Read previous posts, etc.  Clutch master reservoir had brown "dust" in the bottom.  Wasn't sludge, looked like fine dirt swirling in water when I played with it.  So, drained the system, cleaned the reservoir, started adding and bleeding.  Started with a pressure bleeder but kept pulling bubbles.  Went to old school lever action and worked pretty well.  Have a one way valve so used it with a syringe to pull fluid through.  Have clear fluid, no bubbles, but handle is not anywhere near as stiff as it was.  So, broke the banjo loose to release any air there.  Pumped and no bubbles, clear fluid and still easy pull.

When I rebuilt the clutch system on my Nomad, the lever was easier afterwards.  Wondering if this lever on the V is now easier because it's clean?  How do I test this theory without hurting the trans, etc.?  Just think there should be more resistance.

Thanks

I can put my turned-off bike in gear, pull in the clutch and push the bike.

If you think your clutch seems to be working at all your transmission is safe.

You should have seen me at stop signs, trying to make it all the way home, the
day my slave cylinder went out  Wink ...

Latest:  No air coming out, very soft lever.  Using Lucas synthetic high performance DOT4.

Put in gear and pulled lever in and rolled just fine.  Took it out of gear, started and shifted into 1st.  No problem.  Shut it down, started in gear, no problem.  Test ride:  easy pull, seems to engage about 3/4 way out, smooth shifting, easy roll on of throttle gets normal reactions.  Quick roll on/acceleration gets over rev, slipping(?).  She doesn't jump forward and push me back in the seat.   Assume it's not fully releasing.

Thoughts, suggestions?

The goopy brown dust you cleaned out of your master cylinder...

There's a little frob inside on the bottom of your master cylinder, you can see
it winking at you when you work the lever if you have the top off... there's stories
on here of that thing getting clogged.

Know about that "valve" or whatever in the bottom.  Can see it and see it moving/working.  Fluid pumps down when I operate the lever with the bleed valve open.  I've run about a quart of fluid through to get no bubble action.

Thx

I've done this service, and my clutch feels about the same following. It sounds like yours is fine given all the checks you have done. I have my clutch service on video here...  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPvY3FkptmU. It had very mucky fluid. New bike for me so I have no idea when it was last serviced. As far as I can tell, there is no way to evaluate movement of the "shaft" other than the rolling check and test ride. If it works easier now and shifts better, great!
