I have a 99 standard that I HAVE OWNED FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND HAVE PUT MANY ENJOYABLE MILES ON  THE PROBLEM IS I AM NOW ALMOST 75 AND MT FEET DON'T REST ON THE GROUND LIKE THEY USED TO. I DON'T WANT TO SELL MT BABY BUT I DO NEED TO FEEL GOOD WHEN RIDING IT, HAS ANTONE USED LOWER SHOCKS AND FORK SPRINGS ?

Many have installed 11.5" or 12" shocks, Some have slipped the forks in the trees a 1/2". Search the forum for Several posts on the subject.

I have a new set of progressive's shocks. 11" and spring rate is 270#/300#.
Has 100mi on them ... went with 11" 300#/350# and dont need these.
Where are you located?

there is limited tire clearance in the rear. the tire can easily hit inside of fender where it clears the shock tower cross bar.  remove the seat and u can see the cross bar.

better way is to narrow seat where your thighs are straighter towards the ground when putting feet down. narrow seat allows the legs not to be bent reaching for the ground.

The lowest I have heard people going with shocks is 11.5", and that means dragging pegs in harder leans.

I can't remember anyone going to 11" shocks.

I would be also worried about tire clearance with 11s as 98Valk suggests.  You get that short, you really need very hard springs (with limited travel) to avoid rubbing the fender and the taillight wiring in it.  

I'm not trying to screw up a sale here, but...  

You could go with 11.5 (the shortest shocks I've heard used) or 12" shocks, a lower or cut down seat (Ultimate Lowboy is an inch under stock), maybe a lower profile rear tire (perhaps a Michelin Commander), and built up sole boots.  

Another thing is to learn to only put the left foot down at all stops, with the right on the brake pedal to avoid rolling fore and aft (which is the way I was taught in MSF almost 30 years ago); left foot only down and a very slight lean to the left at stops is very stable (much more stable than tiptoeing with both feet down). (unless you step in a hole or have high gusting crosswinds.)  It's pretty easy to learn with a bit of practice.

Its not the extended length 11 1/2" or 11" , its the the collapsed length which is the same for 11 1/2 or 11 . That is 9" for either. So you have to clearance rubbing for either. I have run both and now run the 11", but I have a car tire. So now you know someone who runs 11" shock.

OK, I didn't know that.

Is the car tire a 55 or 60? (I think the height difference is only a quarter inch).

Also, do you (or he) ride two up much?

205/60, also ride two up
Been on a car tire so long dont know what a motorcycle tire feels like!

I have setup two valkyries for Sweet Cheeks who is all of 5'0" tall. We installed 11.5" shocks, and slipped the tripple tree down on the front forks 2/3" (don't go any more than that).

The stock rear tire size is 180/70r16 which has a sidewall height of 5". We installed a 180/55r16 which has a shorter sidewall of 3.9" (1.1" difference).

Lastly we modified her seat by shaving down the foam.

Obviously these four modifications were all needed to make the bike ridable for Sweet Cheeks, but I thought listing them all for you would help you understand your options and choose one or two that would work for you.
