Chevrolet just announced pricing on the 2023 Corvette Z06. For the paltry sum of $106,395.00 you could own one if your lucky! On a separate note, an auction in Australia for a 2022 right hand drive C8 was hammered at a cool $1,000,000. Just due to scarcity of the car down under! I’m planning on getting mine around 2050 if I start saving now, however I could change my mind by then or more likely dead. cooldude

I'm not a Corvette guy but just bought a 2011 Lexus LS600hL.  Now I like that car.  My version of a Corvette.  Plus more in my price range.

Earlier this year my wife suggested that I purchase a new 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup (sort of like the 1992 Ford Ranger I had).  The rational was that we had to take "X" dollars out of our retirement account each year and we don't really need it to live our normal lives and she thought it would be a nice gift for me.

I told here that the Pickup as battery powered and she was no longer happy with idea.  Then I told her they had a hybrid and that might be ok.   Now, today, the likelihood of buying a new pickup is fairly small, just because we don't know what the third and fourth year of Biden and his party will bring us.  So....

I will have to stick with my current ride.   It still works.  Although I did spend a couple thousand on it last year to get some needed work done.

And yes we did now a Ford Maverick once upon a time.....

I believe it is cheaper to keep maintaining my vehicles than to buy new ones - SO , I drive them until the repairs / maintainence gets too onerous (or I can't find parts, whichever comes first Smiley ).

Presented -
2015 VW Golf SE TDI - 122,000 miles
2000 VW New Beetle TDI - 382,400 miles (we bought it at 65,000 miles)
1998 Valkyrie Standard 40,000 miles, (not getting too many miles this year due to my back issues (herniated disc))

Vehicles I no longer own
1988 Acura Integra - the person we gave it to is still using it as a daily driver, at 290,000 miles (guessed)
1990 Honda Civic Station Wagon - 290,000 miles

None of my motorcycles were disposed of with less than 50,000 miles (1978 CB400A, 1976 CB750F, 1981 CB750F, 1994 PC800 )

I wish I knew how many miles I had on the 1996 Explorer.   The odometer stopped working some time ago.  I use a GPS to track miles driven (good estimate) for oil changes and such.

It has shown 186,000 for the past two or three years.  May be more by now

And it would have to be parked under an oak tree that drops about 900lbs of acorns every year.  So no.

I had a '69 droptop Stingray (350/350) that I restored, rechromed, rebuilt and repainted, and sold it getting out the the Air Force.  But I kept my El Camino SS and my motorcycle.

This kept my finances in order.   Smiley

Grin I owned a 76 Maverick Stallion Special Edition (Black and Silver). Worse car I ever owned. No A/C and it overheated all the time in the summer.

That 3/4 Ton Ram with the diesel is a $45,000 + vehicle - assuming you can get the dealer to order you one barebones interior and it is a STANDARD 2 door non-extended cab - 2WD.

After I win the lottery I'd be hard pressed to pay that much for a car knowing what else could be done with the money.

Like a used Maserati Quattroporte, Bentley Chinese eyes, Lexus SUV and a few bikes.   2funny

Plus a garagemahal with enough room for them all and an interior car wash to boot plus air lifts for the bikes.  cooldude

As a physiologist (person who studies how the body works and why), I develop the techniques that physicians use.

I worked years as a military and university researcher in environmental physiology, which is how the body functions in the heat and cold, at altitude and underwater, breathing many mixtures of gases, doing different forms and intensities of exercise, and all kinds of injuries.

It's important to understand why things work. If you don't understand, then you can't think for yourself, and are prone to repeat the mistakes of your teachers, who were repeating what they learned from other people who were repeating what they heard, maybe not correctly, and without thinking, and endlessly on.

You can quickly learn and use what I spent my life researching so that you can be happy, free of pain, and able to do all you love that is good. Scroll down for free summary articles and fix it right now.

Maverick Tales:

Purchased new in January 1970 in Savanah, GA and the next week off to Bainbridge Maryland for Nuclear Power School and some nice snow.

Next, after six months if I remember right, headed to Southwick, Mass (actually Windsor, CN but we had to live in Southwick) for Nuclear Prototype Training, S1C.

During this time we took several trips.  One to Nova Scotia for the Highland games in Antigonish.  Viistied Bar Harbor.  We camped.  Purchased a Coleman cooler which I still have (no pics).

Then, in January - February, 1971 headed out to Bremerton, Washington to join the crew of the USS Patrick Henry SSBN-599.  She was in Bremerton for refueling.  Lots of snow on the way and one road in Idaho had just plain snow, no markings, nothing. Tire chains worked well.  We took the northern route, of course.  Visited my wife's mother in Minnesota.

While in Bremerton we took the Maverick to Mt Rainer, down to the Portland Oregon area.  And got our first dog.

In the fall of 1971 we headed back to the East Coast, taking the Southern route.  My boat was headed to the Mediterranean via Groton, CN.   Actually went into Mexico but had to immediately turn around because we had our dog with us.  Ended up in Georgia for a few weeks and then headed north to Gorton.

Sometime in early 1972, we traded the Maverick in on a brand new 1972 Chevy Blazer.

If memory serves, in the two plus years we owned the Maverick we did not have any real issues.  It was a very basic car.  Manual transmission, not sure if it had A/C or not.

This was (exactly like) my cheap Ford going to school.

It was a good little car for me with no trouble.  Until I got caught on the backed up freeway heading to a law school final exam, panicked and got off in inner city Detroit, sped over a raised railroad track, got airborne, and landed so hard the motor mounts broke and the engine fell out the bottom, and broke the frame.  I made it to the test late (running), and did poorly in my favorite subject.  That was the last time I ever saw it.

This would be a good subject for a new thread:  Tell us a story about an old car you had in your earlier days (but not a story about high heel holes in the the headliner  Grin)

Just fer yuks and giggles I entered 63 Corvette split window in the search bar. A quick perusal yielded something I already KNOW! NO how NO way for this old guy to purchase the real thing. Most inexpensive one I saw-$119000.00 plus and another just south of a 1/4 mil.  Lips Sealed And quite a few with-make offer! And do NOT even wanna know how much insurance is for thay Vette! Soooooo the dream remains just THAT!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

face it,  the price of ANY new vehicle past 2 years or so with NO rebates, NO discounts, paying full MSRP is hardly worth it to most of us.

I read a new Ford Raptor truck will be going from 3.5L V6 twin turbo to a supercharged V8, about time.  ONLY 1 issue is price at 107k.   NO thanks on that as well.

Anyone who can afford say over 50K for any vehicle new or used,  more power to you.
