Watched Easy Rider many many times.  When it came out in 1969 I was 19 yrs old.   Really gave me the bug to travel.   I have often wondered if when DDT started his first "codiwompel"???? If he got on his bike....cranked up....looked at his watch....took it off and threw it away.

Watch? I think he tossed that long before, about that time is when he tossed his calendar away!

(Until the *($#)@$%#@ doctors found it, dusted it off, and gave it back to him...)

That movie had some good points, but I was never a Peter Fonda fan.  Dennis Hopper was the better and more realistic character.  Fonda acts the better moral man, and smuggles drugs.  And Jack Nicholson stole the show and was hilarious (Oh, I got a helmet).  Fonda's Captain America bike sucked, Hopper's was functional.  Getting blown up with a shotgun at the end was overly melodramatic and a crummy ending.

Rod,

Actually, Bronson and Easy Rider did inspire me considerably! I've always been a gypsy at heart even as a small child, and those two-wheeled nomads showed me the best way to live that life! Most of my life was spent doing the 'expected' things of us: Climbing the corporate ladder, raising a family, and being a 'regular' guy. When I got the chance, however, I skedaddled off on my scoot and the rest is history...

I was most fortunate to be able to retire the end of May 1997. When I got home from that last day of work, I symbolically, ceremoniously, and actually took off my watch for good. I have been given two watches as gifts since then, and I did wear them for a couple of days each out of gratitude. That sort of thing held no long-term appeal or even any need, though, so they've both been lost over time.

I marvel often at the way things have worked out! Even the not so good things always seem to work out in a satisfactory, sometimes quite memorable way... and the good things, well... It would seem all clouds, including the darkest ones, have a silver lining! I do love my life, and I'm mighty proud to be here...

Currently in Rickman, TN, watching Big Wolf return our girl to top form with help from MitchO, and the gleeful cheering-on of yours truly. Hope to be mobile again really soon and doing all the things you and others envy!!! Frankly, if it wasn't me living this life and doing all those things, I'd be jealous as Hell myself!!!

What Jess said.

I watch the movie intro, mostly for the song but then also looking at the "strange" bike, on Youtube.  I like "Born to be wild".   Otherwise, never had an inclination to watch the movie.

But....

Watched it when it came out and then learned who the real Peter Fonda was and never watched it again.
Steppenwolf was awesome though. Loved their music.  cooldude

Growing up in small town BC (few miles outside of Nelson) with no TV, our big family entertainment was going to the Starlight Drive-In every Saturday evening. Being well out of the loop with regards to current movie & other entertainment sources from the US and Eastern Canada, our folks naively packed me (age 12) and my brother and sister up in the old Plymouth Belvedere for our regular Saturday evening at the drive-in oblivious to what Easy Rider, which was the feature that night, was all about. After the first several scenes I believe, they booted us out of the car to hang out with the other kids up at the playground and concession stand in the back. We didn't mind...at that age it was much cooler to be on our own at night than be in the back seat with Mom & Dad. If memory serves me correctly, they collected us well before the movie was over and we headed for home.
I don't believe I actually watched the movie until I was already into my motorcycling life in my late teens...I wasn't overly impressed (although like most I assume, did like Born to be Wild).

I never thought much of the movie. But, Jack was good in it. Well, so was Dennis.

Never a Fonda fan, either peter or jane.
