A major problem with (most OE) mirrors is individual height. Taller people really need taller mirrors. Yes, they can be angled, but then you are looking down too much, instead of glancing a little sideways. I had been running Kuryakyn large magnum convex with tall stems, but one side could not be adjusted to my satisfaction without turning the controls on the bars which I did not want to do, so I put the boxey/fugly OEs back on.
My other valk came with OE Yamaha mirrors (or knockoffs), but the stems on these can be turned catywumpus so the mirrors go almost straight up from the bar, and even though the teardrop mirror is smaller than the OEs, they work better for me than any other. HDL sells a set of Yamaha style teardrop knockoffs for a reasonable price, and I have been considering ordering to see if I can get them set up the same as on my other bike. I am not sure if these will work like the ones on my bike, but this is them.

IMHO getting the mirrors taller is the solution for most people unhappy with theirs. What gripes my azz is there are hundreds of stupid tiny, chromy, squiggly, dentist mirrors out there, but very few decent functional mirrors for real riders.
