this might put a slight damper on vehicle sales since both larger 7 seater SUV's are rated in the top 3 right now for larger sized SUV's.
I had the millions of hyundai/kia recall for the 2.0 and 2.4L engines. I got a new engine out of it at around 86K miles although the knock sensor installed by the Hyundai dealer few months prior to all the issues am thinking caused the whole issue since had 86K miles of trouble free driving prior. I was very reluctant to get the engine put in for free since the 'limp' mode and diagnosis happened 1500 miles away from home near Tennessee by a dealer never knew anything about. They did a good job (I think) now 20K miles later except two things they forgot I noticed ASAP was the air filter box was NOT on very well totally loose barely connected and they overfilled the darn oil crankcase by 1 full quart. That last one was super upset about took it in to local Hyundai dealer showed them both problems and they agreed to inspect entire engine for free to see what else they messed up and refill the oil all over again fresh.
I had the same issue with 156k on my Santa Fe 700 miles from home. Dealer got me a rental for a month, brought me my car and now it shows 234k on my SantaFe. Only thing I’m concerned with now is my transmission. I’ve usually always put one in by 210k miles previously on any vehicle. I’d by a Hyundai again with the way they took care of me.
knock on wood hope my sonata lasts over 200K as well if it does got my 17.7K out of purchase price new in 2014. Agree, most, not all, Hyundai dealers have treated me well and most say Honda/Toyota are best, but sometimes that is not the case either. Good customer service at dealers (or anywhere) nowadays is getting harder to find.
Have you changed your transmission fluid as suggested around 100K miles? I have done 1 of the 2 hyundai's but the way the change is done on these engines is you only get about 3/4ths of the fluid out is all not all of it at once. Some say do another tranny fluid change say 10-20K miles afterwards to get more OLD oil out, not sure it is needed?
