a/k/a Stuffy. '99 I/S Valk Roadsmith Trike

Last year during my time spent getting the trike up to snuff, I had pulled the forks with the thought of replacing the fork oil. Good thing I did, it smelled awful and was like black water when I poured it out. I refilled with a couple ounces less than book using 10 wt. After pumping them for a few strokes, I left them pointing downward for a couple days while engaged in other work. I installed them and all was good for some time, then a couple months ago it started making a loud snapping or popping sound when turning left and right, I finally narrowed it down to the right fork. While my lady friend happily sat on the bike turning left & right, I moved my hands over the entire assembly...finally narrowing it down to the right fork. You can place your hand on the lower tree and it will pop when turning the bars left/right. I experimented with loosening the tree pinch bolts and the noise goes away, but I'm not about ride it that way. The wheel was assembled per book, as were the forks when reinstalled. These are 6 degree forks on the trike and work quite well.

I'm debating loosening everything and start over, using the manual again as a guide. Any suggestions?

John , did you slip fit the axle. (I should know better than to ask). I have made that mistake. Loosen the right side fork at the tree and retighten per book. It may be off just a little.
