Part of it is branding - i.e. they have been identified for so long as "NY Jets" or "NY Giants" they don't want to lose that. It IS in the same metro are , so what's the big deal ?
No big deal, just my opinion. Something that is spoken about in conversation all over NYC during football season.
What sparked my thinking on this today was a meme I saw that had a couple great Yankee and a couple great Buffalo Bills players with New York written above their images. The creator of the meme was clearly jabbing that Buffalo is the only real New York football team.
Northern NJ isn't part of the metro area. It is part of the Tri-State area, and in
MY opinion, it doesn't count. The Raiders could have kept the Oakland name as they only moved one state over if we use that criteria.
Unfortunately it's all we've got, and as of now I have partially forgiven the NFL for its own, and allowing the antics of their employees to have occurred as of recent years. And I'll be there next Monday night to see the
ARLINGTON Cowboys take on the East Rutherford, New Jersey, Giants.

It's a yearly tradition for my Brother and I.
And as a side note.......... There are EQUAL numbers of Cowboy fans in NJ as the are Giants fans. It is INCREDIBLE. I have NEVER seen more opposing team uniforms at ANY other sporting event EVER ! ! ! ! ! If you are unlucky, you could be in the minority in your section, at a HOME game.
