Since day 1 I've had audio problems with this camera. I really like the cam but on the "Hi" setting, an over riding static is overpowering the bike sounds. Teck support says use "Lo" vol. settings if mounted on the bike due to vibrations. AKA  certain 2 cylinder motors I figure. This is on my helmet which tech stated works fine on "Hi".
As I go round and round with these cats via e-mail I'm not getting any useful info on this prob.
Being in the 'sound' business for most of my adult life I'd have to say that the problem lies with over ampflication due to just poor components.
Sooooo!
Has anyone had a similar prob with their cam? Any work arounds known?
Thankya, thankyavurrymush!

I have an older 3 megapixel non-bugeye one. As far as I can tell, there's no flipping way you're
going to run the sound on HI while riding a motorcycle without getting all that static. I think
it sounds OK on low, though... you can hear when the rider hits the gas and changes gears and
stuff... your picture quality is lots better than mine... I wonder if it is just the two extra megapixels,
or maybe you do a better job of processing? I import the AVIs that the camera generates into
Windows Movie Maker and edit it into a WMV saved at the "High Quality (small)" setting, and then
upload that to YouTube...

Hubcap, I'm thinking that it's mostly the newer camera that is showing the better quality. Not written in stone, tho, just guessing on that one. I know you tube compresses their uploads so some quality is lost there. I haven't edited these before I uploaded so maybe there's less of generation loss,(if vids have that sort of thing), that way.
This 2nd vid is in a cage, windows up and it still distorts the sound. Setting is still on "Hi". Gonna go out and ride and vid on the "Lo" audio setting today and I'll let everybody know what I've found out.  Sheesh!!
Anybody else chime in cause I need ideas here.

Interesting, I was just about to pull the trigger on one of these since my miniDV crapped itself last fall.
The Hero looked like a good choice, especially since they make such a bold claim regarding sound quality, from the link:

>>>>> GoPro's obsession with sound has conquered the wind. At 85 mph on a motorcycle, you’ll enjoy the throaty sound of your motor, not the wind. Inside even the quietest street cars, hear the pull of your motor...not the drone of the wind and road.<<<<<

Hope you get your issues resolved, I've been working lots of OT the last few weeks and have the boss' ok to buy a new camcorder.

I had the same problem with my kodak camera that takes video. I found the mic and covered it with some foam. Nothing to thick but it took all the static out and the sound improved. If you have a piece from say a J&M mic foam cover that will work. Good luck

What's up with the post-it note on the left side of the gas tank......is that to remind you to buy gas?   Grin

I have the go-pro hero wide lens. I have never been real happy with the outcome. It worked great the first time ever and since then I have fought it every time, especially on the editing aspect.

I am not a years long audio guy, and your expeciations may be raised since you have so much pratical experience in the field.

My thought, take it for what it is worth.

O.K. I had a betting pool going to see which one of my "friends", would be the first to comment on the "issues" header I posted.

To reply to those that are trying to help, the cam is encased in a waterproof case so the wind never hits or rolls across the mic, tried the foam, same results. On the 'Lo' setting, the level is so low that you can barely hear the pipes when I gas it and I have 2 bros 6X6 LOUD pipes.
Here's the latest e-mail I've sent the brain trust at GoPro.

"Here's an example of the cam , "Hi" setting in my car, windows up, 35-40 mph. This distortion seems unreasonable in this application. I believe this camera has a defect in the audio imput section.
I would be more than happy to send this camera back to you for an exchange. All I want is a cam that performs as well as my other video cameras I own. I have 4 digital cameras that record vid plus a new flip ultra and none of these have any audio problems that the GoPro seems to have.
I don't expect professional clarity as I am aware that these are all consumer driven products and they shouldn't be judged or compared to pro cameras but I would like to have a GoPro that can give me reasonable quality.
Thank You
Michael Keslar"

Aah, Terry, once again I've had the opportunity to enjoy your positive responses and helpful hints as I did when a resident of Florida. Keep up the good work. Cool
