I've just got a quote for building a pair of shocks from Maxton Suspenspion (we are in the UK). Amongst a raft of details they are asking for the weight on the rear wheel. Although I know the wet weight of the Valk no idea what the percentage is front to back. Anybody have access to a weigh bridge or a load cell ?

Steve, don't know about on your side of the big water, but here we do have weigh stations for weighing big rigs.  I have use them to check the weight of not only my Valk but also pickups when they are un-maned.  Do you have them over there?

Oleman - yep there's a Vehicle Inspectorate about 20 miles away but closed at the weekend. Just wondering if anybody had sat a Valk rear end on a scale. BTW main reason for replacement is our shocks are shot and my passenger and I are looking for something with added plush. SteveB

I mean, for the purposes of buying shocks, I'd just estimate that probably 55%  of the weight is on  the rear wheel,  using my Tourer data, .55 x 750lb (bags half full, w/gas)= 412.5,  that might have been a little low, so assume let's  420 lb on the rear wheel, before passengers.    Then, probably about 2/3 of the driver's weight, and about 9/10 of the passenger's weight is on the rear wheel, too, so I'd just add that to the 420 lbs..

Valk standard, tourer or Interstate`?

By the way ...
Interstate shock handle more weight better  than standard and tourer.
It's a good way to go if you have a Standard or Tourer

Relax - 2001 Std with Interstate/Tourer shocks. They've finally called it a day and bottom out and appear to not have much damping left. Maxton offer a custom shock build with a lot of different parameters. Considering using them, they're made in the UK, so no import duties or shipping charges, 2 year warranty and they are rebuildable. Also looked at Nitron (another UK company) both companies asking around £700 for a bespoke set so it will pay to get the spec right. SteveB

You say you have  Interstate/Tourer shocks. I believe the Standard and Tourer  have same shocks but the Interstate have a stiffer one. Interstates  bikes are more heavy and and  better prepared for load.
I have a Standard bike and installed Interstate shocks 2 years back. It works very smooth. My standard shocks had a green tag in lower end, while the Interstate shocks have a orange color tag in lower end. ( In case you are curious about what you have)

I believe the weight of you + passanger + packing you bring
is more essential than the accurate net weight on your rear.  The adjustmen-range will cover more than you need, anyways. ( Unless you and/or passenger are  especially heavy)

But, of course, if you have a weight station nearby, go there ( and let us know what you find) Smiley
