Can oem shocks be taken apart? I'm looking at some used Interstate shocks and wondering if the "sleeves" can be removed to attempt to take the dents out.... I've recently bought some Bitubo shocks from Italy but have an issue with them and I'm currently in discussion with the sellers. I'll report back on this if and when the problem is resolved.

I don't know if the bottom part of shock is a sleeve or not. top part is a sleeve. here is how showa shocks are taken apart even though vid is for a GL1100 shock it is the same procedure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKIFnxjSehE if u are looking for smoother riding rear shocks and don't need the spring rate of the I/S shocks use ones from the std/tourer years '99-'03 which use the same smoother valving as the I/S shocks. '97-98 std/tourer shocks have the bad valving and stiff harsh ride.

You can be waiting a long time in the UK for any used shocks to be available Presumably the internal components of the dented one will be OK, says I optimistically. Ideally I'd want those dents out but I could fit it and turn the dents to the wheel. They'd be partially obscured anyway by the pannier. Or would you Valk experts not touch it with a barge pole?

Showa MBY-671 in orange is the label for I/S shocks. It was reported yrs ago that certain yr triumph rocket III rear shocks fit. GL1100 shocks fit, just have to swap out bushing sleeve on one shock. Would that be the label marked below then, or is it too blurry? ................

If you mount them twisted 180 deg, you won’t be able to see the dents.

Have checked the serial numbers and they're definitely Interstate. Managed to get them for £55. As mentioned, I'll be able to turn the dents inwards but I've yet to learn whether the dents affect the working movement. At least Returns are Accepted. I'll still be thinking of ways to sort the dents out but I don't have any sort of jig to take them apart.

I asked him. Long standing member 98valk informed me that MBY-671 is the serial number for Interstate shocks.

Well, the Interstate shocks have arrived. The dents, in the pics above, are fine. I've removed the faulty Bitubo's and installed them. What a difference over the standard oem shocks. I've done 4000 miles on the Valk since March and this is the first time, really, that I've enjoyed a decent ride since the standards were too harsh and the Bitubo's had an incorrect spring causing continual bottoming out. I've been critical of the quality of ride up to now but these Interstate shocks have made a world of difference. They're on preload setting 2 at the moment and I'm looking forward to sering how the bike feels on other settings.
