ok

I can not for love of my Valkyrie figure out how does one get the battery box out
As I posted a while back the positive cable broke at the battery end and I need to replace the cable
I bought a cable but can not figure out how to get the plastic box out without butchering it

I can not even see where it goes but I think I know it goes to the starter which is under there somewhere
The Clymer manual is not assistance
I have not had a ride on my interstate for 4 months and am about at the point to take metal shears and just cut the side of the box out entirely but that probably is not a good solution

I know JeffC had his out to clean  but he does not recall what he did that worked

ANYONE?  I will even put a member up overnight and buy beer

and now the bmw is also out of commission..................... but that is another thing entirely

I miss riding

Oss,

There are 2 10mm bolts in the tool storage area and 2  10mm bolts on the top side of the box, those front bolts have a steel U shaped strap that they hold in place.  Remove the battery, the fuse panel and starter relay, and the coolant overflow bottle.  The ECM AND several electrical components are attached to the box by rubber bands. Once all that is removed you should be able to wiggle the battery box out.

Evan, the hardest part was getting all the electronics off the outer part of the box. After that, there are a few 10mm bolts and it’s out. You can do it!

I'll take the beer and a rain check on the room.

My friend Steve just emailed me to say is coming over next Saturday

I am booked solid between now and then with Court, real estate closings and client appointments

If he does not come by I will move the bike into the center of my garage, plug in my spare shop lights and have at it  And yes I will charge that new battery that has now been sitting 4 months

Funny I seem to have multiple 10mm on hand  anyone missing any?   cooldude
Thanks for the replies and vote of confidence

I had my Interstate develop that same issue.  I replaced the cable, if my memory serves without removing the battery box but then my memory has been flawed before.

all good now,
left cover off, reservoir removed.
right cover off, moved air horn guts out of way
(battery box did not have to be removed)
Cable hooked up, battery in, started right up

Posted on the general board the rest of it

Thanks to all  cooldude

"all good now,

I have to work on my starter relay which requires removing the coolant reservoir. Was there any glitches taking off and putting back the reservoir to be aware of? thanks.
[edit] I can do it but I just like to know whether to set aside 20 minutes or 20 hours for this.

My memory is that getting the reservoir out and then back
in is annoying, but not 20 hours worth of annoying...

One bolt sprayed  penetrating  oil on it.
Then 2 hoses to work loose

Easy

Well easier than getting the hoses back on the gas tank anyways
