The older I get, the less I like winter - especially snow and ice !!! Increasingly, it is something that comes that I can't do anything about, except be as prepared as I can. The electric snowblower I bought a couple years ago makes short work of clearing the driveway / front porch / walkway.

O2S, I feel your pain.  WE have been having white showers for last two weeks.  Valk has not been out for those two weeks.  Between 30 degree temps and bad roads, riding is not an option.   Thankfully most of the white has been landing in the high country where we really need it for next summer.

I have ridden in 30 degree temps when I was younger, but old age seems to make me a bit smarter, wait for the temps to come up to at least 40 now.   Old joints don't like the cold.

We've had a few snows, nothing sticking yet.  Its currently 15° and sunny, with a predicted 40° high.  Seven-damn-degrees tonight.

Aah, Autumn in Western Colorado!

Oleman I can relate to the Bones no likee the cold no more. Danged old ritis brothers and arthur the worst of that lot!  Grin I believe all those years in the tropics-Vietnam-kind of effected my cold weather tolerance. And as you've stated age got a little something to decrease cold weather tolerance. Yesterday misting and low 40s as I got in the cage to go to a Veterand Breakfast at a Church here. FIRST thing I turned on was the butt warmer and dug out a pair of nice warm driving gloves. In the last 4 or 5 years I now Need driving gloves when it's cold outside!  Lips Sealed I Never NEEDED driving gloves before in my entire driving career! When I raced motocross by rules gloves Required BUT other than that! Gittin old ain't fer wusses!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

You do realize that condition you are speaking of is a four-letter word.

One of the reasons I moved south was to avoid ever having to use that word.  Wink

You can have and keep my share.

I got all the big shovels out. Also got the snowblower out, got it running, and then changed the oil.

I'm ready. Bring it on.

One more turn should do it!

« Reply #13 on: November 13, 2022, 03:23:48 AM »

Here in NE Ohio on Thursday Sunny and 70, Friday rainy and 55-60, Saturday cloudy and in the low 30s, snow blowing around. Before my current place of employment. I was laid off every year from Thanksgiving to mid March. I loved the Winter.
For the last 23.5 years I have earned a living plowing snow and repairing broken water mains due to the cold temps here in NE Ohio. I hate Winter and have to get mentally prepared for the Winter. From now until mid March nothing else exists. I have to make it through this Winter and one more after this and I'm done.
I am wondering if I will enjoy Winter again when I'm retired? I'm guessing not. I'm 25 years older and worry about falling on the ice and snow. The cold that never really bothered me, now gets to me.

O2S, I can relate to the gloves.   Hands have gotten soft in the last decade or so.  Wear them for yard work most of the time.  Of course, have always wore gloves when riding.   Something that I started doing soon after first bike.   Do have several different gloves for riding now.  Some are for winter, some are for summer, and some for in between.

Driving, is another story.  Have a Ram truck with heated steering wheel.  Yeah, this time of year that is the first button I hit after starting the rig.   coolsmiley

I hear yah, they say Tuesday during the day 1 to 3 inches first snowfall of the year.  WAY too early for me usually is Thanksgiving week or after first snowfall.

My garage is a MESS right now have about 20 hours of work to do and NO time to do it during weekdays to tidy things up just a tad to fit MORE stuff inside garage.  I look inside my garage and ask myself every November WHERE do I begin and how did  in 6 months it become such a mess inside?  Loosing ambition as I speak and now that extended forecast next 12 plus days NOT over 40 degrees no idea when I will climb up on my roof and get the leaves outta the eastrophes either.    I am the worst procrastinator of doing things I know of that NEED to get done.

LOL!  I just hate it when Arizona folks brag about their winters.  Perhaps we'll discuss July and August sometime.  Wink

I know most will think i'm crazy but i like winter. When i retired i bought myself an Ice Castle fish house. It's a 17 ft. r.v. model. I love fishing on the hard water sometimes for days. Then there is the snowmobiles
I have around five to ten of them at any given time. I buy ones that need work fix them and sell some. One plus is that my chance of hitting a bear on one is slim.  Wink
