both my kids ages 21 and 24 do vaping and excessive amount of energy drinks daily like 3-5 per day. Trying to convince them to stop both or very limited use of both like 1 energy drink per day and vapping only on limited basis like once per week or so.
I think both will be harmful in the amounts they do now when they reach age 40 and above, agree or not?
Vaping seems to they say CALM them down and relieve the stress, much like smoking or drinking do for some. Vaping can cause cancer right? Or not enough studies done yet to see long term health issues?
I guess should not really admit it but on occasion vaping they do the illegal stuff as well they told me.
I went thru my early age 20's as well excessive drinking, but never smoking. I sure hope this is a stage but from what I see of them and their friends, I think both energy drinks and vaping will stay with them well into their 30's for sure.
Energy drinks affect some worse than others. I ONLY ONCE had a tiny bottle of 5 hour energy drink and helped me for a few hours staying awake but soon after crashed out and was tired and wiped out and I think I got the shakes somewhat from having one since not used them ever.
Reason why ask is kid had a lifting meet we went to this weekend and saw him keep chugging energy drinks before lifting and told him to STOP him having five 12 oz energy drinks in about 6 hours which to me is way way too much. Needless to say he bombed all 3 deadlifts saying he was tired and was his worst lifting event ever by far. It was a very long day though started 9 a.m. ended 5 p.m. with way too many lifters allowed everyone was very tired sitting around all day just to lift 9 times total is all.

The ONLY stress vaping relieves is the stress of needing nicotine once you’re addicted

Nothing natural about the speed drinks or synthetic smokes. Get them to give it up before they regret outcomes later. I feel for these young people who get caught up in these products to go w/ the flow. Convince them to get away from these. I hope they will recognize these dangers of having more and more to get the same feeling as they did when they first started. Good luck and prayers for strength to over come.

Bingo. I'm thankful vaping wasn't a thing when I quit smoking or I'd prolly still be sucking on a douche flute to this day.....

I can tell you from a long time vapors perspective it's better than smoking. Both are bad addictions to have but I'm in much better shape since I went with the alternative of vaping. Smoked 2 packs a day for 30 yrs had at least two fainting spells during coughing episodes and not one since I've been vaping about 8 yrs now. I can get around better without being out of breath, no more coughing & just feel better overall. I started out vaping at 24mg nicotine and now down to 1.5mg so hopefully in the next year of so I can quit all together. For me vaping has been a good alternative at least for now. But I certainly don't want to see my kids picking up any addiction whether it be a cig, vape, alchohol or any other drug legal or illegal to become dependent on.

I also believe quitting altogether would have been a better and less expensive choice, but vaping has been a good alternative to tar sticks. I may wean from it one day, but I'll never go back to cigarettes.

One thing I always told my girls while they were growing up; "the life you live when young has a major impact on the quality of life you live when you're old." Vaping, like regular cigarettes or any other type of tobacco, is a crutch. Same goes for the energy drinks, totally not needed. Cookie, all those drinks will ruin your son's lifting goals, he needs to stop. They have been known to damage the heart for one thing, especially when taken in excess as you've stated. I'd suggest if you're still supporting the one that still is lifting, give him a choice...you want my financial support, stop the vaping and energy drinks. JMO!

there you go as John suggested above: you want car insurance and cell phone and college covered, STOP vaping and energy drinks.
I think 1 energy drink a few times per week is no big deal, but seeing him down 4-5 in that one day there told him STOP IT. He thinks he is invincible until like someone said he has HEART issues at such a young age.
pretty sure neither would have started either in college if not for the other buddies they have using them first who got them hooked. When we were all young, vaping and energy drinks were not born yet. However, am sure most of us either smoked or drank to excess from time to time with most of us giving that up as well when getting older.
If I find out EVER my kids starts steroids as a few of his lifting buddies have seen others used (doubt the 3-4 he regularly hangs out with do steroids though but know 1 for sure does older lifting guy) he will be in a world of hurt from me.

You can exercise what you can control or you can let them make their own decisions and continue to empower them. Your choice.

If one wants more energy then I think supplements such as Balance of nature, Texas Superfoods along with protein drinks like Ensure or boost would be better. They seem to work.
As far as smoking, nothing to say, I never smoked.

I doubt is a 'phase' both are going thru and here to stay for a longer time than I would like to see it. Although not proven, vaping is probably safer, depending on ingredients of what is being vaped, than cigarettes are. I just have had way too many aunts/uncles pass from years of cigarette use past 8 years or so so not good genetics there. I did text my 21 year old lifting kid told him if he EVER starts STEROIDS (so he can lift MORE weights) that all college tuition, car insurance, and cell phone be cutoff ASAP. NO response from him as usual.
