“ the news earlier Monday, stating that the vintage car collector was in his Los Angeles garage, where one of his many automobiles suddenly burst into flames.

Sources told the outlet that the explosion severely burned the left side of Leno’s face, but did not seriously injure his eye or ear.

He was transported to the Grossman Burn Center in LA”

I saw that earlier as well.  Newsmax's ticker had it sort of hyped up and what you said is what I read.

Have to wait and see the outcome.

hope he is o.k. and did not seriously mess up his face/body due to severe burns.    I know he has in his collection tons of cycles with one being a honda RUNE.  Maybe I should take that off his hands?

I heard it was one of his steam cars, for what it's worth.
Glad he's ok.

I read it was a gas engine and flames came out of the exhaust.   Hard to say, reporters don't always know but, put stories out there anyway.   Regardless, a burn is a burn (I think).
I like Jay Leno, hope he recovers soon.

Jay’s seems like a low key, leave me alone type guy now that he’s out of Hollywood.

I’m glad he’s not hurt really bad (like dead or seriously maimed) but with an assorted collection like he has and the amount of wrenching I’ve read/heard he really does something like this doesn’t surprise me.

Somewhere I seem to remember another past issue with a steam car but I can’t recall what it was.

Hope he mends well and get better soon. I’m sure he’ll have a few jokes about any scars.

"Why does Jay Leno's steam-powered car need gasoline?"

And reports it was his 1907 White Steam Car:

Steam cars have a boiler to boil the water needed to pump into the cylinders.  Most boilers were fired by kerosene at that time, but, gasoline can be used on some.

With the video posted above jump to 4 minutes and see how the lighting is done. This looks like what I referred to as him having a previous issue, looks familiar.

“ Grossman said that Leno has been kind while undergoing treatment at the burn unit. At one point, he passed out cookies to children and has been helping out with other patients.”

I blew myself up on July 4, 1976 with a pound of FFFG black gun powder.

Not intentionally.

Fortunately, my face was covered with a full beard and glasses and a hat.  The beard saved my face skin (and glasses, my eyes), but man did that stink (it's close to the nose, you know).

My hands and arms weren't so lucky.

one Star Spangled moment

I often begin this story with..... in a fit of patriotism,    crazy2

There was a little alcohol involved, but my downfall was assuming the night before's campfire was fully extinguished.

Unlike smokeless powder, black powder needs to be treated just like gasoline.

Was shooting a replica first model Colt's Dragoon.  But not when the powder went off.

Only 14ozs less weight than an M1 Carbine.

Saw a video this morning of Jay Leno, although his face was never shown, he was in a hyperbaric chamber, his left arm and hand were wrapped in gauze, his right hand was also bandaged.
