Last night, Nancy and I were sitting on my couch looking at various wedding rings. She had a particular site pulled up on her phone and we chatted about a couple versions that caught her eye, referring to them by model name and number. We looked at quite a number of rings but those two in particular were of special interest. This morning while eating my morning "low cal" cinnamon roll with my coffee, I was going through possible new email on my desktp PC on both Google and an old AOL account which I only use as a back-up search engine and some long time friends still haven't caught on to the fact I don't use it as in the past...like 25 yrs. in the past. Lo and behold, both search engines posted pictures and links to the specific rings we had looked at last night.

Nancy has never texted or emailed me anything about rings. I have never looked up any sites on rings on my personal computer. Things that make you go HMMmm....

I find something similar when I do a search using DuckDuckGo.

And while it is not the same, I can be reading an article about "A" and decide to do a search on "A" and I will start typing the search term and as I do, the term is "auto filled in" with the text of the article.

Granted this is on the same computer.

Might just be the way the network handles stuff.

“The massive digital ad-tracking infrastructure that drives the modern web works by assigning identifiers to every single computer that accesses the internet,”
“At minimum, anyone you cohabitate with shares the same IP address when browsing the web.”

I don't experience that here, I have to guess that my use of "privacy badger" is why.
I don't see horse ads because of Carolyn and she doesn't see russian porn ads because
of me  Roll Eyes ...

There's other tracker blockers too.

If all your devices were Apple devices it would probably help too... Apple's
new policies are screwing over advertisers and companies that sell the ads,
since the ads are harder to target now.

I largely see blank places where ads should go, because of privacy badger...
On Apple devices (I look at the Internet on my BFGPS sometimes) I still see
ads, they just aren't targeted. I hate ads that flash or move...  privacy badger
won't fit into Apple's closed ecosystem...

My gmail gets lots of spam. I don't click on or read any of it. It's a weird combination of stuff related to my internet activities and seemingly random things that I think everyone gets... like... "claim your prize" or "we've been trying to reach you about...xyz".

Then sometimes... it will be specific to something my wife and I have recently discussed in person. Phones or computers not intentionally involved.

I know she's listening but I'd like to think that "Siri" is not... well you know...

Happens to me all the time.  We'll be talking about something and, BAM, shows up on FB feed or email.  It freaks me out.  But it is what it is.

P.S.  Wedding rings?  Way to bury the lead.  Wink

Yup. You only need to say it out loud and one or more of your electronic devices will "hear" it. Happens to us frequently, and no Alexa anywhere in this house. It's terrifying if you think about it. Big brother really is watching us.

Somehow, they'll figure out how to tap into our thoughts soon. The speed at which you type, the pressure on your phone screen or keyboard keys, the look in your eyes (everything does have a camera facing you after all). Yes, I'm somewhat of a conspiracy theorist, but thus far, many have proven to be true.

I knew Big Brother was always watching and listening when I shopped for chrome on my computer and before I hit the buy button, the same chrome showed up on my wife’s laptop as an ad.
She knew I bought bike stuff before I did…. tickedoff

I was talking to a co-worker about how, if I had the money, I would collect watches.  Literally, an hour later my IG and FB feeds were loaded with watch ads.  I have never seen watch ads before.  A lot of the ads were for common Fossil, Citizen and Seiko watches.  About 10 percent were for Rolex and other very pricey brands.  Some watches in the ads showing for over $100,000.

A couple years ago, my brother and I were texting back and forth about materials to insulate my garage.  A couple hours later, my feeds were full of Lowes and Home Depot ads.  It's insidious.

I have not personally tested this, but I had a friend swear up and down he did it and it worked for him... Anyone wanna volunteer?

Friend claimed he left his TV on to a Spanish language station overnight with his phone sitting next to the TV (Audio on and loud enough to hear, normal level.)

Left the phone, locked, not doing anything, sitting next to the TV overnight for a few nights.

All of a sudden he started getting a sizable portion of the ads on various websites/social media in Spanish...

Grin Grin That shouldn't be a problem, I've already demonstrated it. Plus as a joke, she said just in case she can call the EMT's at the hospital which is only about two blocks away. Told me to let her know in advance and she'd call them to have them on standby. Now I know how Rodney Dangerfield felt.  Grin We're finding at this age there's some major legal issues to iron out due to various holdings of each of us, but we're willing to work it out. She's planning on keeping her last name due to her work as an artist and her signature on her works, especially anything she's commissioned to do. That doesn't bother me, it also lets her keep her name on assets as it has always been. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do re. rings, she said she doesn't want an engagement ring, only a plain wedding band when the time comes, partly because she has small hands. I thought maybe a simple engraved diamond necklace instead. Decisions...decisions!  Wink
