So is the only difference between a Deluxe and the other bikes for  the 01-03 years was polished wheels?

Is it the deluxe that has polished final drives as well?

Like the wheels, I think they are clearcoated somehow. Sounds like something
that would look awful after a while, but every time I see one it looks great.

I think there were the plain black models also, not just the striped models. I don’t know anything about a polished fork brace. The wheels and rear drive are clear coated.

'00-'03 - polished clear coated final drive
'01-'03 - polished clear coated final drive and polished clear coated front and rear wheels.

zero models had a front fork brace, due to the inverted forks which do not require a fork brace due to their design.

"Deluxe".  A 2003 Model GL1500CDA has aluminum parts exterior to the bike polished and coated including the wheels and final drive. Mine has held up well after almost 20 years.  Stripes were replaced by a black finish that is near show quality. It will remind you of the classic Vincent and Royal Enfield.  The wiring harness is not routed like most, but all connections are the same.  No "Made in USA" on the seat or engine. My bike was likely made on the last day of production, dated 1/2003.

I was told the dealer finally sold it in mid 2004.   At the time, Harley was the bike of choice in Central Florida.

"No "Made in USA" on the seat or engine." that was removed for the '99 models as far as I know. Honda did meet the fed law of 80% or more made with american made parts.

'01 was when honda change the name to custom deluxe from just custom.  only change was polished wheels and the paint scheme. everything else was unchanged.
according to parts manual two versions were offered in the final yr '03. deluxe had the polished wheels and custom without polished wheels.
'03 was only avail in black.

All 99's I've owned had the "made in USA " engine stamp.  Both tourers came with rear seats that stated it also.

Not sure if Honda stopped it mid year production in 99.

I meant lower triple tree member. My bad but I only seen one 03' with it thus leads me to believe someone polished it thus my "?" posted. I've seen a couple 03' and didn't have a polished/chromed drive shaft housing.

Cobra sold chrome driveshaft covers... a Deluxe would be a good bike for one...

Yes, it was a mid-year (Federal) change in the percentage of US made parts (on the bike) to qualify for the Made in USA stamp.  They raised the percentage requirement.  It didn't matter where they were assembled.   Both my '99 Interstates are stamped on the block.

u are correct typo on my part. my valkyrie reference book by peter rakestrow does state "made in usa" was dropped starting with the '00 models.
also in '00 honda used the I/S tool kit for all models which only has nine items vs the previous yrs of 17 items.
