i was splitting my carbs today to replace the o-rings in the fuel rails and dropped the #6 carb. There is a little nub on the corner that broke off. It looks like it doesn't do anything so I'm thinking a dab of JB weld when assembling and it should be ok. Pain in the butt to get apart ,even using the red-eye tool. What you guys think?

Yeah, I see the same nub on mine:  doesn't seem to be connected to anything, luckily.    If it's not bent in some way, yeah, you could JB Weld it back in place.   That sounds like something I'd do too,  taking great care in the future not to bump it with anything.

I don't know if I'd bother, unless it is an easy thing to do while it is off the bike.  I would guess that that "nub" was a cast in place locator for machining/manufacturing the carb body and is probably no longer needed.

Check the pic I took. It looks to me like the 'nub" corresponds to the location of the enrichment (choke) rail screws on #2 & 4. All the carbs have the "nub," but only 4 of them are drilled and tapped and shaped for the choke rail mounting. It is akin to the loop on #4 that matches the loop on #3 where the idle adjust knob goes. I guess it saved manufacturing costs.

As far as I can tell, there are no passageways under where it broke off.

If it was a customers carb I would replace it because I don't want to send someone something I broke. If it was my carb, I would inspect it and verify no function is compromised. I would then put it back together and run it.

You can JB Weld the piece back on, but it probably is not visible with the carb rail covers installed, especially when the carbs are on the bike. Actually if you are going to break one of these off, #6 or #1 are the best choices!

I was able to jb weld the broken piece back on. I did it mostly for the visual and I had the broken piece. You really cant see it after the linkage cover is on. Thanks for everyones input.

Which part number is a Fuel Rail?

I know all the parts but don't always recognize the nicknames used.

That would be items 1&2 on that drawing. There are also 2 tee's on each side not shown between the middle and rear carbs. They would be item 2&3 of carb tubing diagram. I'm not sure where that name came from but it refers to the joints in between the carbs.
