My wife and I went to a couple of different places looking for a chest type freezer for my son and his wife. The DIL specifically wanted a chest type freeze and it's Christmas so............... I had an Orange and Black Valkyrie on my trailer behind my wife's Ridgeline. Transporting it back to Mississippi. Regardless, was asking the store rep about what he had in chest type freezers. One of his compatriots came up to us and asked, "What kind of Harley is that bike on the trailer?". I responded that that "Bike" wasn't a Harley, it's a Honda. He said BS! With wide eyes, I said, no sir, it's a Honda and just so you know, that's almost an insult. His face went almost white and he stormed off almost knocking the sales rep over as he left. Some folks simply have no sense of humor. Rams

Had he not replied with "BS", I could have easily taken his question in stride and talked about Valkyries but, when he said that, I was not impressed. But it was still funny watching him storm off. Rams

I've had two (older) ladies (different times) tell me I had a nice Harley (in a gas station). I said... thank you. To some people, Harley is a word to describe any motorcycle. Like a Polaroid camera, or a Xerox copier. I know that was not your situation. When my Hog buddies asked me why I switched to Valkyries (from my Hog), I said.... Well, I grew up, and I then I moved up. Later, I showed them my taillight, getting smaller and smaller. Holy Sh!t, that thing really moves out.
It do.

More than once this has happened infact, it happens frequently (probably because in a lack of knowldege by most but some may be due to the Orange and Black colors of my Valkyrie. I'm rarely put out by the lack of knowledge of a non rider. But, this dude had an attitude, (so do I but, I don't go off like a rocket like he did). Regardless, it was funny in the end. Rams

Ron you touched on that lack of knowledge of the person. Seen THAT more than once or so. And the longer they rant the more apparent that lack becomes. My favorite response among many is-has the wind EVER asked you how you got there? RIDE SAFE.

What we need for these situations is a fabricated story to give these folks a great narrative, albeit a fake one.
"What kind of Harley is that?"
"Not supposed to let it out yet but it is the Harley Valkyrie Glide. Most powerful Harley ever built. Proudly made in USA too. This is a demo version. 92 cu. in. 6 cyl. Only a hand full made back in the 90's. You can't tell anyone you saw this bike."

I'm going to use that story, it's great.

I recall some years ago some friends and I were out for a "meat & eat" and while sitting at a light, my Harley riding buddy sneezed and his upper false teeth flew out. I simply told him if he were riding a smooth running bike they wouldn't be that loose. He hopped off, picked them up and doused them with water and slapped them back in, all the while we're all howling with laughter as were a number of car occupants around us.

That story would definitely fool some people. Which reminds me, I just visited with Dana McCoy in KS. Those that know Dana (Valkhound) are aware that he never has a lack of motorcycles (mostly Valkyries) in his shop. This time I think he had 7 Valkyries, a couple GWs and one HD. But I saw something that made me look twice. He's got a Valkyrie with HD "Glide" bags mounted to it. The above story would definitely work with Dana's HD/Valk. Or would that be a Valk/HD? Rams

I was invited on a ride out to Harper's Ferry some years ago with a Hog group. Everything went fine until right in town, the leader's entire air cleaner assembly fell off in the street at a light (you know how they shake worse at idle than when running down the road). He did a lot of cussing, and scrambled to pick up all the parts before the light changed. Lots of guys laughed, me too. When I said to the guy next to me.... Well, it's a Harley, isn't it? a lot more guys laughed, and then the leader kicked me off the ride. A few guys objected, but I said, it's OK, I'll see you boys later. So it goes. To be fair, I've had a Valk mirror shake loose a couple times (aftermarket, since ditched), but it never fell off in the road.

"What kind of Harley is that?" A young female passenger of a pick-up, on my left at a stop light, asked me that. I replied "The best one, it's not" She gave me a quizzical look and said "It's nice" I said "Thank you" and took off. Her male driver never even looked over and was obviously pissed off about the verbal intercourse we had.

I'm waiting on my chest freezer from Home "slow" Depot but the weather is issue a on both ends of this freezers journey.
